Austin | 2 comments Read this book around 2010, but it had already been in print for an unknown amount of years at this point. May have been a series of books. Characters were adults.

Some point after the opening sequence the main character comes across a random stone wall in a forest that is assembling itself slowly. There is a small gap in the wall that he climbs through and finds himself on the side of a highway with cars. He doesn’t know what a car is and thinks the humans are slaves to the “strange fast moving creatures”. He notices the air is harder to breathe and the sun more obscured than in his world. A police officer pulls over and chases him as he goes back through the gap in the wall. The police officer faints from surprise and how oxygen rich the air is. Main character pushes the police officer back through the wall and puts a leaf in the part of the wall assembling itself.

At one point the main character and party are teleported into a desert where there is a single line giant tree. They take shelter under it and we are given the tree’s perspective of them being there and it describes how one day it was also suddenly teleported into the desert. They pee on the tree and the tree is thankful for the liquid.

This part is told from the perspective of a party member (may have been in another book in the series?). The main character and party are in a land inhabited by undead creatures like skeletons. They are captured(?) by skeletons and our cannibal guy takes of his skin and lets his skeleton join the other skeletons so the party can leave. As they are riding away in their cart/wagon the cannibals skeleton catches up with them and climbs back into his skin as it didn’t want to stay with the other skeletons.

At some point the cannibal guy obtains a magic glass/crystal sword that as it breaks the shards float and fly around becoming weapons.

Spoiler below for the ending

At the end of the book the party is at the end of the quest from the beginning. They go up the evil knight’s tower and fight him. The glass/crystal sword’s magic doesn’t work to the dismay of the party member whose perspective we’re seeing. They defeat the knight and I think he turned out to be super short. They get the princess and it turns out she ran away with the knight, who isn’t actually evil. They take her back to the kingdom, collect the reward and then kidnap her to bring her back to the knight.

I’ve been trying to find this series off and on for years. You are an absolute legend.
