I read this a long time ago, I think before my daughter was born so about 30 years? I remember re-reading it around 1995. What I remember clearly is the preface which was fairly long and talked about the gods of that arc. I thought it was Margaret Weis' Dragonlance but that's not it. Any ideas?

Can you remember anything about the gods?Off the top of my head David Eddings' Pawn of Prophecy (1982) starts with a world building prologue about the gods:
"When the world was new, the seven gods dwelt in harmony, and the races of man were as one people..."
You guys are amazing. As soon as y'all said the name it was, oh, yes, of course, and though I still don't remember the story that was exactly the quote I'm thinking of! Now I just have to remember which box...
