Falling for a Rake by Eve Pendle

I was not able to borrow “Falling for a Rake” by Eve Pendle from my Library or from Kobo+. Apparently it is only “free” if you join Kindle for a trial period. I did the next best thing and read the second book in the Fallen series, Once a Fallen Lady.

I have been listening to this. The audio is decent, but not great. The first time I read it in ebook, and I loved it. I get why it won’t work for everyone, though, due to the ferns and the demons they have to overcome.

Observation: The author writes "no one" as "no-one". 😕

Ch. 1: I'm not sure how I feel about the introduction to our two main characters (view spoiler)[immediately in the first few paragraphs. I feel that there's not enough information about them for me to care about them. There's a disconnection. I would much prefer to see how they first met instead of having the hero retell it to our heroine. For a while, I was confused. Is he a true rake or is he pretending to be one??? (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it. I didn't like the writing style, the pacing of the book, and the heroine. I ended up skimming the majority of the book after chapter 9. I don't think I will be reading the rest of the books in this series.
