Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments I will be taking a back seat for May while I recuperate, so please be patient with tracking and badges. We're stretched pretty thin.

No problem. It was just carelessness. Live and learn. I will be more careful. I am glad you are back and hope you are feeling ok.

Will do!

message 54: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 2089 comments Janice, as I was looking at my thread for badge 1, I realized that I read, I think 2 books that I can't use because it would be for another badge. I'm wondering if you want me to renumber my reports, i.e. the first thing we report is Badge 1/Book #. When I request my badge I will only be reporting the ones I can use, but didn't know if you needed me to correct my individual thread.
Thanks in advance!

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments Are you switching them to other books in badge 1? If so I need "Move book from Site, Category, to Site, Category. This will only work for the badge you are currently working on. Because you have to finish a badge before you move on to the next one. You cannot read badges out of order. These books cannot be allocated to badge 2.

You don't need to renumber books, but may say at the end how many books you've completed.

I know we talked about this in my thread but just wanted to say that I'm deleting 2 of the books since I can't use them for badge 1 or any other. I'll let you know which ones in my thread.
Thanks, Janice!

Kira (kiraa18) | 654 comments Hi Janice! Books are not being verified for my thread for 2 days. I wasn’t sure if they weren’t being updated or mods are not getting my updated books notifications. It’d be great if you checked it out!

I recall tracking them.. I must have missed putting the checkmark there.

Kira (kiraa18) | 654 comments Thanks Janice :) I thought I was doing something wrong so assumed it would better to ask!

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments Just a notation for those of you reporting for the annual challenge, I will get around to tracking your books. After my sister left today, I focused on work, doctor's appt, and then slept for most of the afternoon. Please be patient with me.

Kristie | 19178 comments Not a problem Janice! No hurry.

Nilesh Mistry (mistry) | 21 comments Hi, hope you’re all well! This isn’t a question as such, just wondering what you guys think. Looking at how much fun you guys are having with this challenge, I’m tempted to start even though it’s very late, obviously I’m never going to get all five badges, but I thought I could possibly at least squeeze in the first batch. Do you guys think it’s worth it or should I just wait until next years challenge?

message 64: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments My suggestion is, Nilesh, if you want to give it a go then there is heaps of time to jump in and try for badge 1. Half the fun is trying to find books that fit the theme, and that you want to read. Use Topplers and Special Events like the Banned Book event to see if you can smoosh in a couple that fit both.

I'm not sure how fast you read, and whether you think the first 15 books is achievable, but that could be a little challenge for you. Or, just go with the flow! If you don't get there, who cares! But it might whet your appetite for next years challenge, and get you all pumped for December when we know Janice will announce 2023s.

It's all about making your reading fun, so if you think it will make a thread and we will be here cheering you on!

Definitely worth it!

Grainne Coughlan | 1301 comments If you have the time you might as well start now. You'll get a better idea of what it's all about for next year.

Kristie | 19178 comments I agree. It will give you an idea of how the challenges work so you'll know what to expect for next year too. They're a lot of fun and as Rus said above, we enjoy finding books to fit the tasks (gophering) a lot too.

There is no requirement to earn a specific number of badges. I am still working towards my first badge this year and I started right away.

message 68: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments The first badge is the challenge. The additional badges are extras and there to keep our speed readers engaged. The first badge is 15 books. If that's not doable for you given the amount of time that's left, make some workable goals for you to work towards. It will give you a taste of the annual challenges.

message 69: by Nilesh (new)

Nilesh Mistry (mistry) | 21 comments Thank you everyone. You’re alright of course, I’m going to start planning for it, even if I don’t manage to finish all 15 books, like you guys said it would still have been fun choosing the books. And it’s a very good point about getting ready for next years challenge. Thanks again :-)

Sharon Hopper | 2428 comments In looking for a book with Spring in the title, I am wondering if possessives can be used: Ex: Spring’s

message 72: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Sep 29, 2022 04:22PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments Yes, you can use possessives.

message 73: by Prosenjit (new)

Prosenjit Paul (bangaloredbong) | 55 comments As a lot of folks know, I set up libraries for the underprivileged kids in India across communities. If you also identify with the cause, would need some help in social media awareness! Connect with me via messenger if you can volunteer for the "Librarywallah" Initiative - we are looking for 1-2 hours effort per month on platforms like Linkedin and Facebook!! (Hope this does-not violate any of the community guidelines!!) Thanks in advance, and a happy Diwali (Festival of Lights) from India to all!!!

message 74: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments Could you move this to another folder please? This is for the annual challenge. I think "Off Topic Chat" might be a more appropriate place. Or move it to the "Whatcha Doing" thread. Thanks.
