Mark Porton | 92 comments Well, well - the author has developed the characters of this family very nicely. Ebba is a handful, her Dad seems to be an enabler - poor Mum is in a very dark place. How about "Wanker Rob"? I almost choked on my coffee when I read that. Not sure where this is going - but it's intriguing to be sure!

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments Ha ha, sounds intriguing. "Wanker Rob" eh??? ☺

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments I couldn't help but take a peek...

First impressions:
* Rosemarie has the patience of a saint
* Karl-Erik is a bully & a boor
(will he get his just desserts?)
* their (adult) kids sound like a handful... "Wanker Rob"??? Oh dear, sounds like he was on Love Island or some other trashy tv show.

Leaving it there for now. I love Nesser's writing! This reminds me of why I loved hid Van Veeteren series so much. I wonder what the new Inspector will be like?

Mark Porton | 92 comments You're right abut his writing Nattington, it's great I can't put the thing down. I agree with you about Rosemarie, poor thing - she sounds so miserable, totally understandable as her husband is a bit of a prick isn't he?

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments Great Aussie vernacular Marko!

That he is. And a self-righteous one at that.

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments Ok, so thanks to some rowdy teens (on a Sunday night?!!), I've read the first six chapters.

Further to my "first impressions" (above), it seems like a typical (atypical?) dysfunctional family. They're a mess. None of them seem particularly fond of each other (let alone care or love for one another). They all have their own little agendas and gripes...even the grandkids!

And poor old Wanker Rob. Ouch. Or should that be "how embarrassment" 😳

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments I forgot to mention! This would all be happening at the end of year, the lead up to Xmas, when everyone is tired and has had enough...

Another Leapfrog whisky anyone?

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments I've not heard of "Knives Out". I'll have to look that one up.

It's fitting that poor old Wanker Rob ended up on the TV series "Prisoners of Ko Fuk". Clear spirits will get you every time.

The writing's great though, isn't it. He just seems so amused with his appalling characters.

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments Only four fingers?

They sure made short shrift of that bottle of whiskey.

message 10: by Mark (new)

Mark Porton | 92 comments Yes the author is having fun with this family and Wanker Rob is a classic so is the reality TV show!

message 11: by Nataliya (new)

Nataliya | 79 comments Well, that’s one unhappy family. It seems that everyone is at their breaking point, and a large family gathering may be the last thing they need.

“Wanker Rob”? I’m surprised anyone cares, but I suppose in 2006 being on a crappy reality TV show was probably a bigger deal than it’s now.

message 12: by Nataliya (new)

Nataliya | 79 comments Also, I any help but notice that all these people were quick to be procreating with questionable partners. Maybe they would have had better lives had they thought about contraception…

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments A family that fights together stays together? 🤔
