This month we read When the Lights Go Out. The book was set in a Yorkshire coastal town which is suffering from flooding and continuous rainfall. It follows a family struggling to cope with their Dad having extreme climate paranoia. There are interesting links between religion and climate change throughout the book and lots of interesting metaphors between character relationships and the deteriorating climate. We all found the book quite slow until the last chapter when suddenly lots happened- which felt like a metaphor for extreme climate events with no warning. Overall we gave the book 3.2/5.
