The specific book in series I can remember was something about "Rosary" or something like that it was about a serial killer killing young girls thats in a catholic school then they leave a rosary by the body... There is a series of books with diffrent cases they work on and in later on books the senior detective retires but come back later to help with a case.

What is the story's time period and location?
Wow I can't realy remember but it was somewhere around 2010...give or take a few years. I only had read of the books previously and somebody borrowed them and I never saw them again... In the books I have read the woman gets a bf and the man had a wife but its not really anything to do with the story or atleast not with the ones I read but could have meening to the story in books I haven't read.. In the 1st book the woman was a rookie and teamed up with the older man a legend in their department but he was sortof a loner and didn't want a partner but she quickly grew on him after she proofed herself to him... The other book I read was set much later in the series cos now tge man was retired ( he opened his own restaurant or takeaway shop or something like that) but then he was forced to come help the woman with a case cos it was linked to the case he solved years earlier (the case which made him a legend) can't really remember much more... The author was male... The books was set in current times if you get what I mean (not in olden days or future)
The location was somewhere in america. I wana say NY but I can't say for sure the old time's "special skill" if you can't call it that was to solve serial killer cases that's what he was know for and he liked cooking ( like I said he opened a diner, restaurant or something like that when he retired)
