I’ve read the first five chapters! So far I’m not really hooked yet
I've read the first and I was so confused, though it's normal as I don't understand the world yet hahaEDIT: Read 2 more chapters and I'm still lost and uninterested because I don't know what the hell is happening ._. Also, the author uses a language I'm not used to and it's hard for me to understand what's going on. UGh.
I think I will read it slower than I thought at first! D:
Im up to chapter 15 and I’m still kind of confused - I feel like a lot of the concepts aren’t really explained well? Alright just go at whatever pace you’re comfortable with!
Btw on a different note keep me posted about daughter of the deep!
Oooh so will we be confused for a while? :( I think the concepts are not explained well neither. We have to think by ourselves. I've read until chapter 8, hoping to read a few more chapters tonight.I'll shot some thoughts so we can comment more about the book and not just "this is confusing" haha
I understand Ira wants revenge, though she fleed the palace at a young age (5 years, really?), and she really has a "plan" to kill the doyenne, though I'm still thinking it's an awful plan lol. When, on chapter 8, she said she was who she was BEFORE having her magic I facepalmed irl because, really, can't you just WAIT a little more to reveal yourself? *sigh*
And about Jazmyne I'm not sure why she wants to "change" the doyenne. She doesn't want to rule so, why dis she agree with a rebellion?
I don't understand the magic here yet, and the mythology confuses me. I know Anansi, he's a trickster spider god on African and Caribbean mythology (and because American Gods haha) but I don't understand the references they tell here. It's so confusing.
I'll try to catch up, but I will be a bit beyond ^^'
About the Daughter of the depp, I still don't have the book but I'll order it tomorrow and hope it will arrive in a week or so. Do you want to start reading it on the 15 or 16, when we finish this BR? :)
And about Our violent ends, I've ordered it on fairyloot and I'm not sure when they will send it, I hope by the end of November or maybe December.
I really don’t get what Jazmyne’s aim is either! Why agree to a rebellion? From what I understand all the ‘witches’ have lost control of the islands because of all the infighting? I’m still confused Yes! The mythology is very confusing honestly and there’s not a proper glossary from what I can see!
For Daughter of the Deep - yes that sounds good! What kind of pace do you want to go at?

I think we should have a clue about Jazmyne's reasons D: But well, we'll see. I didn't get to that part yet, I'll try to comment after reading it xD
I'm so sad about the glossary :( As it seems, or as I understand, there is a god with seven faces/personalities? And Anansi is just a storyteller god that made a "profecy" about Ira? Hm...
I've ordered the book today and it will take 3 weeks to arrive D: I hope it gets here earlier but it seems I won't have it by the 15 :(
And by the pace, I think I can read it in a week or less, usually Riordan's books are easy to read.
Continued this today! I'm getting more into the story even though I'm still a little confused about certain aspects and there are so many terms that are not explained! I'm up to Chapter 20 now.
For Daughter of the Deep - Perfect! just let me know when you get it and then we can slot it in for over a week from whatever date you get it :)

I did read a chapter or two :( But today I've finished a book and I can center 100% on this one. Or hope so, because my concentration falters every time I read it hahahaMaybe we can try to comment those terms together so we can have an idea between the two of us?

I've read a bit today (I'm on chapter 18 x.x), and I have to say that I like Ira's chapters more than Jazmyne's. Ira's personality and lack of patience/thinking before acting bothers me, but sometimes it makes me laugh hahaAbout Jaz, I think she just wants to sustitute the doyenne because she's so cruel with the people?
I think the doyenne and the boy (which I can't remember the name or family ^^') have a lot more background than we expect. Or so I would like to think...
Yeah I get ya! I’m up to chapter 30 or so and planning to get back into this later today! I’m getting more into the story I have to say although I also prefer ira’s chapters over Jazmyne’s!
I'll try to get to chapter 30 too so we are on the same page (literally? Haha) and comment about the plot too.By the way, what is the 'naevus' Irá mentions? The magic? Hum...

Ok so I powered through and finished this last night (I wanted it to count for a readathon that I'm doing) I enjoyed it overall, but I really wish there had been more explanation of the concepts and world building!

Yeah. I thought some words were made up, but it seems they aren't; it's just that I don't have them on my vocabulary haha ^^'I'm not sure what Kirdan is planning but it seems he's going to be a traitor, but I don't know who will be the betrayed.
And, surprise, surprise! Daughter of the Deep will arrive on Wednesday! So, do you want to start reading on Saturday, for example? After Witches I need some easy book to read hahaha (hope to finish it by then x.x)
Also, I'm planning to nominate These violent ends for the group read, if you don't mind!

I'm so slow reading this, and I think I would DNF it if I wasn't participating on the group challenge.Finally they 3 of them met and, ofc, Kirdan wasn't who he said, he's just after the jeges... And I'm not sure if he would be nice from now on since he got the locket.
I still don't understand well why they all agreed to do a pact.

Finally finished! As you said, Jaz changed a lot on the last chapters, and it all gets more and more confusing. Even in the ending I didn't know exactly what was happening, but I wasn't putting all my attention on the book neither...
I think my last opinion for it is: *sigh*.
