What was going on here?

I thought is was a combination of the child being abandoned and Kim not wanting to be at the EPT meeting. Kim will always have a soft spot for abandoned children because she can feel what they feel.

Exactly, Sharon. Kim was hoping that something would come up to get her out of the EPT meeting. She also has a soft spot for children in peril.
