I'm considering a few books: The Night Watchman, or Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, or Brothers on Three.
I am considering a couple books for this prompt. Code Talker: A Novel About the Navajo Marines of World War Two by Joseph Bruchac or Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse

I really like Bruchac. I haven't read that specific book, but I like other books by him. And Roanhorse's books are also in my tbr pile.

I'm reading The Night Watchman right now. It's mostly a rare event, but both last month and now this month are covered by books that were either next on my list for reading anyway or already in progress.I'm glad I already had something in progress or else I'd have chosen something by Tony or Anne Hillerman, unaware that neither are Native. Saves me a second embarrassement!

Thank you for specifying a Native author and not broadening it to be about Natives. We non-Natives gain an opportunity to get a glimmer of a sliver view of a perspective we, truly, can never really understand. But it can serve as a beginning.

I just finished Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse. It was really good, very excited for the rest of the series.
Utah Hornbakers wrote: "I will read There There by Tommy Orange" Completed 11/16 Very insightful and emotional read.
I read
Firekeeper's Daughter
by Angeline Boulley. On Time's recent list of "The 100 Best YA Books of All Time," this novel, written by an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, checked all the boxes for me. I absolutely loved it!

I will definitely add it to my TBR list.

Whitney wrote: "I just finished Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse. It was really good, very excited for the rest of the series."I really liked that one. I was hoping the third book would be out for this challenge, but no such luck. :)
I just finished Twilight on the Thunderbird about the Quileute tribe in Washington, and it gave me actual nightmares. I was reading about how their language isn't closely related to any other language in the world, and hardly anyone speaks it anymore. Plus, at one point in the not-too-distant past, almost all of the tribal artifacts were burned. Four nights in a row, I dreamed about being desperately sad about all the lost history and culture.
I picked up Girl Gone Missing from a library display. I gave it 5 stars. Now I'm going to read the first book in the series.

Since tomorrow is Dec 1st do we have December's challenge? I need to start a new book and was just wondering. LOL
I have 4 books already planned for starting in December. I'm hoping one of them meets the challenge. Probability is, of course, low. But I can always add one more if needed. Plus none of the 4 needs to be finished in December. So I'm good to go!
Only a few more hours to post what book you read to complete this challenge. Let me know before midnight!
Also, the December Challenge has been posted! Go check it out.
