His leg began to cramp, causing Val to wince in pain and walk even wonkier. He finally spotted Damian, breaking into a full blown sprint and knowing he’d be paying for that later. He was surprised he didn’t fall flat on his face.
“Damian, tesoro!” He grinned, plopping into the space beside him.

“Yeah, but it’s worth it! I get to see you and your pretty ears and your pretty face and your pretty tail,” He teases, poking each one as he listed them off. He rubbed Damian’s ears in his hands, kissing the top of his head.
“I’m glad you’re safe, Tesoro.”

“I’ve been good, I’m fine, I’m fine! I’m here for you, not for me. It’s been too long. But you’re safe. You know I worry about you when I’m not around, right? I’m scared someone will take you from me.” His voice was somber, yet rigid.
“I won’t let that happen. I can’t.” He buried his face in Damian’s hair, wrapping his arms around him and holding him tight.

((THIS POST MAKES ME PROUD OF MYSELF AND MAKES ME HAVE LESS DOUBTS ABOUT MY ABILITIES.))

In reality, Valerius was just extremely self conscious.
“If…. If someone else… another man, perhaps, asked for your hand.. would you take it? It might be a ridiculous question but I just.. things have been a bit harder for me lately. I know there are things I can’t do and I’m arrogant and obnoxious but I.. I love you. Nothing could ever change that. I know there are men out there that are better than me and could treat you better than I can but..” He was choking back tears by now, rambling as his voice quivered in his throat. What had brought this on? What had made him so scared?

“Ive already lost everything. I can’t lose you too. I love you, Damian. I don’t love your name or your backstory. That doesn’t matter to me. It never has. Because when the time comes you’ll be taking my name anyways.” Valerius chuckled lightly, trying to lighten the mood at least a little.

“I’m glad you told me. I want to help you. There is a place, in the fish kingdom. It’s above land surprisingly. It is only our property because it rests on our waters. I’ve been there. It’s beautiful. If you and your Mother.. your family, would like to stay there, I could work out a way of transportation. Maybe my ship?” The ship was something he had never mentioned to Damian, mainly because he was afraid he wouldn’t approve. The poor kitsune panicked whenever Val was above land for more than an hour. There was silence for a while, until Val began to speak once more.
“And just so you know, I am never giving up on you. I’d swim across toxic waters for you. I will do anything to keep you safe.” His voice was quiet, as if the words were reserved for Damian only.

And maybe one day, they could do it all again, with a little one alongside them.
Or two.
At Damian’s question, Val visibly brightened.
“Of course, vita mia! I’d be delighted. I just hope you’re prepared.” He winked teasingly, spinning Damian in a circle just once before pulling him back into his arms.

((Written while half asleep. Not sure why I wrote now of all times (almost 5am), but oh well. xD ))

His hair obscured the eyepatch beneath, the story of which he never wanted to talk about. Most assumed he had no eye underneath.
He snapped out of it.
Meeting Damian’s eyes, he squeezed his hand.
“Do you want to go to the waters? I don’t mean the docks. I mean where I go for peace and quiet. I wouldn’t mind sharing my little spot with you, Tesoro. If you’re up for it, that is.” He teased, poking Damian’s cheek.

"I don't think so. The sea is a very versatile thing, Tesoro. What it means varies between person to person. For me, it means home. Safety. But for you it's different. But the one thing that we agree on is the comfort of the rippling waters. And I think that's... Quite nice. To be understood like that." His cheeks brightened with red and he tugged on his cuffs, clearing his throat.
"Apologies. I'm rambling, aren't I?"

They soon came to a stop at a wall of foliage, and Val reached out to push it aside. He held the makeshift doorway for Damian and went in after him, grinning wide at the mystical sight.
It really was beautiful. Pristine blue water cascading down into a nature made pool, the noise a bit loud yet not unpleasant. He looked back at Damian and began to strip.
Unprovoked.
His skin was bronze and shining, and he leaped into the water and waited for his body to change.
And it did. His tail unfurled, replacing the human legs he had been walking on to reveal shimmering blue scales in all different shades. He swam in a gleeful circle, before pulling his upper body up and over the mossy rocks that rested beside the water.
“Don’t be shy. I don’t bite. Not unless you ask nicely.”
