Carmen Harris (theharrisauthor) | 7 comments Hello,

I'm Carmen - an author who has published a debut novella and has recently decided to be of assistance to other authors by becoming a beta reader. I have beta read before - so far I've beta read for 3 authors.
I will be beta reading for free - but please note, I will only be offering beta reading services for published authors at this point in time (this could change in the future). I will also only be taking on one project a month, since I have a part time day job as well. This is a first come first serve offer. I will be keeping everyone up to date through this thread, as well as on my website and on social media what months I will be available to beta read and what months I am booked for.
For the moment - I am available from November this year (2021).

Here is a very brief list of what I enjoy reading:
- Contemporary
- Crime/Thriller/Suspense/Mystery
- Fantasy
- Paranormal
- Historical
- Romance
- Literary
- Women's Fiction
- Chick Lit

Here are the genres I don't read:
- Erotica
- Non Fiction
- Science Fiction
- Young Adult
- Dystopian (I prefer the current world as it is - even as it is slowly going down the drain. Dystopian - completely down the drain - sometimes feels a bit depressing for me)
- New Adult (exception: unless there aren't graphic, erotic sex scenes or not a lot of sex scenes in it)

For more information - please go to my website:
https://carmenharrisauthor.com/beta-r...
And for those who are wanting to find out more information beyond what is provided on my website or to ask any questions, go to the home page on my website to find my social media links - I will be available through those channels.

Thank you for your consideration.

George Boreas | 11 comments Hi Carmen,

Do you read satire/comedy set in a near future? It's neither science fiction nor dystopian. If yes, I have a 51k novel that needs a beta reader.

Regards

George

John | 93 comments Hello,

I have a contemporary novel at 158k words. I understand for anyone to read a manuscript of this size is a huge commitment, so I'm only asking you to read the first chapter (16k). Afterwards, if you're willing to continue, great. If not, that is fine as well.

Blurb:
One morning in a coffee shop, Alex is beside himself to meet Pete Shehann, whom it seems has some experience in the very subject of which he is a self-proclaimed enthusiast. Reluctant yet prompted, Pete shares his story, beginning with how his father abandoned him as a child in rural 1930s Oklahoma, leaving him embittered and believing himself a failure, proven time and again. And marrying May couldn’t be luck at all but a fluke, even if she has her own problems. After losing all of her family in a tragic accident, a terrible void remains, and she wants children more than anything.

An unexpected inheritance raises suspicions yet sends Pete and May to a new life in Oregon, where they meet Stevens, the attorney handling the inheritance and proving himself a faithful friend in the years to come. But a tragedy that happened on their journey haunts Pete, eventually conforming to an eerie parallel with May after her health fails following the negative results of an infertility test. It greatly disturbs Pete to discover he isn’t even enough for his own wife to want to live, but he determines to do whatever it takes to save her. And what of himself? Is he destined a lifetime of failure?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Mike Rembis (mikerembis) | 50 comments I have a newly completed manuscript I would love for you to read. Nobody has read the ending of this completed draft, which I hope is the last one.
Eternity’s Grasp is the first-person account of a career gambler, reeling from a huge loss, who impulsively kills somebody and deludes himself into thinking he is invisible. The unreliable narrator delves into his psyche to reveal secrets that nobody who knows him would even suspect, not his friends, his lover, his mother, or the FBI agent who wants to trap him. Will his secrets you take you on a journey of terror from which there may be no escape? You can bet on it. If you are really up for a prosaic and suspenseful thrill-ride you may really like this. I must include trigger warnings for violence, sexual assault, and narcissism.
It is hosted at https://betabooks.co/signup/book/3245gg and anybody with the link may read it.
I hope you decide to read it and share your thoughts.
Thank you so much,
Mike
