Karen Rostoker-Gruber What do you think is the actual ending to the book, "Sam and Dave Dig a Hole"?

Just curious what other people thought. :)

Minju If you look at the last scene the wind had changed it's direction. I thought that this meant that there had been a 'change' in something. Like the movie , the wind changes it's direction when Mr. Banks has been changed, alas to Mary Poppins it is the time she has to go back home. The digging process had no results and is nothing, if you only look at the fact if one achieved a gem or not, but I think that even though they had not achieved something from digging, there is a change between before the digging and the after digging. Life maybe the same, because events like finding a gem is unlikely in everyday life, but there can be some small changes from every action we take during life.
p.s. I am not quite familiar with the English language, so my writing may be wrong in some places and the writing may be a little hard to understand. I hope I have delivered my perspective. Sorry in advance:(!

Jules I kind of took it as they'd tunneled their way to an alternate dimension of sorts. There is a cat on the porch instead of a dog and the fruit tree has different fruit on it to the one in the beginning. It made me wonder if the Sam and Dave of that timeline had also dug a hole and they'd switched places without realizing (and may never realize!)
