Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments When I add a new book to Goodreads do I have to add the ebook as a new as well? If I have to make two records for each book (paperback and ebook) how do I link them together?
Thanks for your help!

Scott | 9205 comments Once you've made the first record, use the "add new edition" from that and they will automatically be linked.

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments Thanks!

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments I do not see that option when I am adding a book. Can you explain where to find that option?

message 5: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9205 comments Right underneath the section with the publication data, and other editions.

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments I am sorry to be so stupid. These are the only fields I see when adding a new record:

title *
sort by title *
author *
Add new author
isbn
publisher
published year: month: day:
number of pages
format
edition
description
edition language

I do not see an "other editions" option.

Scott | 9205 comments For this book, can you see "other editions" with several small cover images?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

It's right below that.

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments No, I don't see any other editions when I am adding a new book. Do I need to add the ebook as an altogether new title and then go back to edit the paperback to link to the ebook? I do not really understand how to edit a book after it is created.

message 9: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9205 comments Sorry, I mean to put a book link there. Can you look again?

message 10: by Warbler (new)

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments Ah, yes, now I see that link to other editions. There are 3,175 other editions and I can't find my ebook edition (978-1-7360628-1-4). I do not see a way to search the other editions to retrieve mine and link it.

Scott | 9205 comments Just search for the ISBN in the box at the top of the page. Your edition is already linked to the others. Maybe another librarian did it.

But that was just an example. Under those other editions, do you see the link that says "add a new edition"?

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments Maybe I'm too stupid to use goodreads. In goodreads, when you click Kindle it brings you to someone else's edition not my edition.

If you are smart enough to find your way to see other editions, my edition does not show up in the horizontal scrolling list.

Then you have an option to see more editions -- a total of 3,175.

Elizabeth (Alaska) The easiest way to search for a book with a lot of editions is to put the ISBN in the search box. Here is the page for the ISBN you have in post #10 of this thread.

Scott | 9205 comments I'm just trying to explain how you would add a new edition and have it automatically connected to the existing ones, so they don't have to be combined later.

message 15: by Warbler (new)

Warbler Press (warbler_press) | 60 comments I understand that part. I am trying to make sure that a person can find the ebook of the displayed edition without searching by ISBN (how would they even know it?) or searching through 3,000+ other editions. Shouldn't the ebook edition show up in the "more editions" horizontal scroll with book cover images? Or is that impossible?

message 16: by Scott (last edited Nov 05, 2021 03:43PM) (new)

Scott | 9205 comments No, it doesn't scroll, and that probably wouldn't be any easier anyway in this case.

The best one can do, without ISBN/ASIN, is go to the editions page, and filter by format. Here you can see about a hundred e-book editions, which is more manageable.

You can further sort by date published. When I do that, the Warbler is #3 in the list.

How would they recognize their edition without knowing their ISBN? Many books have the same cover.
