I like them all. Might have to go the eenie meeni route!

Have a good travel day, Anita!

message 3: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2603 comments Wow, feels early to me too! Where is this month going? Although Love Story seems close to Made Me Cry, I happen to have more there than Mythology and it's a close one to First in Series! But I'm off to put in my vote with just a back and forth for eenie meeni miny mo.

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy | 13028 comments I am absolutely going to throw 10 votes at first in a series. Just going through my TBR on my phone, I am barely through half my list and I already have 25 choices. I think this is a great tag. I mean I could easily find some thing for the other two as well, but this is the one that’s got the most to meat to me!

message 5: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12747 comments Finally a month where I like them all! Now to see what I have on the TBR! 2021 sure is flying by, eh?

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy | 13028 comments Just counted. I keep my TBR strictly at 400 books, (with another 200 lying in wait on my secret phone TBR). On my real actual TBR, 45 books are first in a series. Voting right now. Best tag ever!

I like it, too! Those poor 200 books lying in wait, just hoping to make your real TBR. LOL.

message 8: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12285 comments I like the choices, but none of them are singing to me. Nothing on the first 5 pages of any that I really, really want to read.

I'm going to think about it for a while and unlike Amy this month, I'm not putting extra points on, once I've decided.

For the first in series - I have several mystery and thriller series I'd like to try lurking on my TBR but also there are some 'first in series' books in series where I've read later ones but not the first. In fact the Kaitlyn Dunnett cozy series set in Moosetookalook Maine is one where I have recently read 2 later in the series, like them and now want to read the rest. They also frequenty have a seasonal theme -- so might fit Flurries as well.

Love story - duh - I read romance. And some of the contemporary fiction lurking on my TBR definitely would fit -- including some of the books I am behind in reading in the Unofficial Trim.

Mythology -- lordy, I must have half a dozen retellings in waiting, plus new translations of the Odyssey, etc. And I still have not read the 3rd of Katherine Arden Winter Night Trilogy which I think fits.

Yup, it's going to be eenie meenie ....

message 11: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9307 comments A day early. I'll have to think about this one. Love Story is far more appealing to me than romance because not all love stories fit the romance genre, but I don't yet know what I'll choose. None of these open up new reading territory for me, so I'll think about it a bit :)

message 12: by Robin P (last edited Oct 14, 2021 01:14PM) (new)

Robin P | 5934 comments I am tired of mythological retellings. I was thinking we had romance/love already this year, but that was Regency. Still it seems repetitive. So I like first in series.

message 13: by Olivermagnus (new)

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4893 comments I'm also putting my votes toward First in Series. I would be okay with either of the others but I'm looking forward to some easy, enjoyable holiday reads during the rest of the year.

message 14: by LibraryCin (last edited Oct 14, 2021 02:10PM) (new)

LibraryCin | 11776 comments Not one I would normally choose first, but I'm hoping for (what I think is) the most narrow one...

ETA: And after reading the comments, I'd guess the most broad one will win... LOL!

message 15: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12285 comments After going through my TBR a bit, I came up with the one which has the book, I most want to read. :)

Voted

message 16: by NancyJ (last edited Oct 14, 2021 04:52PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11207 comments How is it that I never saw this tag before? I don't like the romance genre, but I like a good love story as long as it's mixed with something else, or feels very authentic (not formulaic), nuanced or mature. All along there was this tag! It also includes books about deep friendship and sibling/family love,

I want to try a new series, but not five of them (I usually read at least 5 tag books). I'm not sure which ones are for me. I really hate cliff hangers, so if a series also has the love story tag, I would prefer to keep reading if I really like it.

Series with love story tags (there are many more): Does anyone recommend any of these for me?
Six of Crows
Strange the Dreamer
An Ember in the Ashes
Daughter of the Forest
Into the Wilderness
Children of Blood and Bone
My Lady Jane
Tea Rose
Outlander - I'm on #7
Practical Magic - I have the latest coming soon
Illuminae - I read #1

message 18: by NancyJ (last edited Oct 14, 2021 05:22PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11207 comments Book I could read for love story:

FireKeeper's Daughter - also for Fall Flurries
Bel Canto
The Marriage of Opposites
A Town like Alice
Six of Crows or another series by Bardugo
Memory of Love or Happiness by Aminatta Forna
The Things we Cannot Say
The Forty Rules of Love - or Three Daughters of Eve, by Elif Shafak
Writers and Lovers by Lily King
Possession by A.S. Byatt
Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf
Uprooted or Silver
Unbearable Lightness of Being

message 19: by Robin P (last edited Oct 14, 2021 07:06PM) (new)

Robin P | 5934 comments For first in series, I have several mysteries. I can see if I like the series without there being real cliffhangers as there would be with some other genres. Of course those who want romance can read first of a series there. They usually don't have cliffhangers either, each book is a different friend/sister/hunky guy, etc.

Love story could include love for family or even pets.

message 20: by Sue (last edited Oct 14, 2021 08:32PM) (new)

Sue | 2754 comments I voted.

First in a series initially sounds great, but for anyone trying to match up their tags for Fly, the book would need to be tagged with that exact phrase.

Having said that, I have potential books for all three tags, so I'm happy no matter what gets picked!

message 21: by Meli (new)

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments Not super stoked about these choices, but I feel like first in a series and love story will have some diverse choices.

Also.... It's time to vote for November!? 😱

@ Nancy, Into the Wilderness is fabulous. Strong woman protagonist, hunky man, great HF research. I think if you read it, you will be hooked on her writing

From this list Nancy, I think Bel Canto is the one for you

Two of my favorites on your list (one long, one short)
Possession by A.S. Byatt
Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf

Jgrace | 3971 comments Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is supposed to be published on Nov. 23 ( my plan for Thanksgiving weekend). Definitely works for love story. (love saga?)

message 27: by Charlotte (new)

Bel Canto, Six of Crows (which also fits First in a Series), Possession, and A Town Like Alice are all 4 or 5 star reads for me --- and ones I recommend frequently. An Unbearable Lightness of Being is a rare DNF for me.

Amy | 13028 comments Charlotte, my secret stalker book twin! If you loved it I would love it! I sort of have it on my list for a Thanksgiving November book. But I’ll tell you what, if love story wins maybe I’ll do it and it will be both!
