Mateusz Lewicki | 6 comments I read this sci-fi book some 20 years ago, but is probably older. Knowing my tases from that time, it probably must have had colorful cover.

Story is centered around protagonist who is usually human, but has ability to change into 2 other species of aliens:
* one like wolf, but with hands
* one that has changing shape. Is very logical and thinking creature.

I believe that protagonist is not really human and all 3 personas came to be part of him by way of being captured, inspected, copied into him and originals were dead.

Protagonist has internal discussions among all three. At one point the logical one takes over, takes form of pyramid and spends long time (2 years maybe?) thinking about stuff. Humans build a shrine around him.

I believe the ending was that people provided protagonist with spaceship and asked him very strongly to leave and explore rest of galaxy. Female friend joined him(/them).

M (miyu) | 82 comments This is definitely more than 20 years old. I have read this several times but I too can't remember the title. I think it's one from the 1960s or earlier (possibly 1970s). The main character was created and sent off to explore the universe and find other life forms, and did this by absorbing them. When he realises he has been created the other two aliens within him 'blanket' him as it upsets his mental balance.

M (miyu) | 82 comments I found the one I'm thinking of: The Werewolf Principle by Clifford Simak, 1967! I hope this is the one you meant!

Mateusz Lewicki | 6 comments This is correct, thank you! Now I remember there was something about amnesia.
When I searched on google I filtered out every werewolf, because I wanted sci-fi, not fantasy... Seem I guessed wrong
