I didn’t like this book when I read it, but it bothers me that I remember the basic plot, one character’s name, and the ending. It’s been haunting me for years because I can’t remember the name. I like to know the names of the books I read, even if I hated them.

I read this book my sophomore year in high school and it was a book we read in class (2005). I believe the story starts with the younger sister arriving on the farm and the husband, Alec, is attracted to her. There’s all this sexual tension between them and they have sex in the loft of the barn. She gets pregnant and the relationship between all three of them is ruined. There are a few chapters of the baby as he grows up.

This wasn’t in a textbook, but it was a xeroxed packet my teacher handed out.

Anyone have any idea?
