I do 2, Nicole. I feed some black strays every other night at a certain hangout of theirs in the area. They're beautiful cats and so friendly. I love my cats...all colors and makes and models. lol

Val Deniston caters at the debut of a new bookstore in Bayport but the death of a customer casts a pall over the festivities.

What is the mystery that surrounds the secretive boarder who rents a room at Val's ghost-buster gramp's home? Are these incidents connected?

Join us while we trail Val along a path of clues as she attempts to uncover the identity of the perp who aims to scare off Halloween.

In my zeal not to reveal too much, I left out some deets that appear in the synop. Sometimes too much is shared hence the term, "spoiler." I'd rather find out when I get there. ;-)

So, settle back in your chair, marshmallow ghosts, mini-chocolate bars or hot PSL in tow and enjoy this autumn romp most intriguing.

Ha, ha, ha in the early pages when it's is revealed what those back yard ghostly lights are told to be.

How are you finding the characters? I adore ghost-busting gramps!! LOL

The story so far seems very Hallowe'en oriented, which is nice.

It is, PI Pghfan. A Halloween-themed mystery that actually has all manner of black cats, Jack o' lanterns, costumes, treats and murder. Let's see if it carries throughout the story. ;-)

LOL I hope so 2, PI PugMom! An investigator, ghost-bustin' grampa. He has it all!

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Once I borrow the book I’ll only have it for 21 days so I’m going to wait a few days before I get it.

I got the book from Hoopla and have only 14 days left with it. Fortunately, I am well along through it! Moving slowly.

Sounds like a plan, PI's.

As for Nick, did you PI's find him over-bearing in his chat with Val? Or was he just being friendly, neighborly? IYHO, did he come on too strong or was Val being a bit touchy in her assessment and treatment of this Dracula? Do tell.

Nick certainly seems hard to pigeon-hole. Overbearing, certainly, but then a bit too friendly.

Mmm? So true, Pghfan. Which Dracula do you think is on the up and up? Bram or Nick? (Who names their son Bram (as in Stoker?) , anyway? lol

Mark Pghfan | 1939 comments Mod
Yeah, I was thinking of the "Bram" business as well. Too Dracula??

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm on chapter 4 and should be caught up tonight. I had a feeling our victim would end up being who it was due to the book title, lol!
How appropriate is Bram's name, by the way???

I'm enjoying the scenery and agree with all that it's a very Halloweeny book. I'd read the first book in the series and didn't love it, but I'm really and truly enjoying this one so far! :-)

Thanks for the heads up, Nicole. When I'm ready for another read in this series, I'll start with the second.

Yeah, not a bad li'l mystery, Nicole. We fell on a good one for the season.

LOL On Val's coming up with Kitty Black. However, I'd think Nick would've seen through this one. Unless he's aware of her deception (Isis at recent Halloween event would not be a subtle connection) and is keeping thoughts to himself. Mmm??

I am a good bit further on, in that I was rash to get the book on Hoopla and I now have just nine days left to read the last 40% of the book.

Not a spoiler, I hope, but doesn't Val seem, well, boring?

message 31: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Yes, that's why I put off getting it until yesterday.
I do like Val. Her personality will hopefully come out at some point in the book. I liked her in the previous books. She was a bit more interesting when she was dating the guy who was an actor but he left the state for an acting program so they broke up.
I think Grandpa is my favorite character though.
I got confused when they mentioned the woman who died in the backyard. At first I thought he said it was Suzette but then we find out Suzette is the boarder. I will have to go back and look because I don't remember anyone dying in their backyard unless it was in the one book in the series that I skipped over.
