Sarah Lagan | 6 comments For my second book review, I decided to read No More Dead Dogs written by Gordon Korman. I found this book to be super interesting and realistic because of the issues some of the characters face. In the book, the main character, Wallace, is a middle school student who is fairly “popular” at his school because of his success in football. He also happens to be a very honest person and has a personal commitment to never telling a lie. In this coming-of-age story, Wallace deals with troubles regarding his teacher and ends up having to join a play where he meets another student Rebecca who isn’t the biggest fan. She thinks he is out to sabotage the play and he ends up being framed by having his jersey placed at the incident. Basically, at the end of the story, Wallace tells his first lie and takes the blame for the cherry bomb explosion knowing Rachel’s brother was the actual culprit. Later, Rachel learns the truth and builds a liking for Wallace and his kindness. I think this plot is super important because it emphasizes the importance of communication and trust between people whether it be in a friendship or relationship. This story also portrays the possibility of a positive outcome when listening to others and understanding two different perspectives. I find a connection with this book because throughout middle school, high school, and even college, I have experienced miscommunication and obstacles with relationships and it’s important to always remember to express how you feel while also being open to what the other person has to say and respecting one another.
