Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments yeah i think i'm reading about twice as much as i signed up for bc i was in a reading slump during the signups, but if we go over we can just take off the books with the shortest page numbers since those are worth the fewest points anyway

message 102: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments I can swap out my Greg Iles book for another Q or U as needed. I should finish up my current book tomorrow which is a U.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments We’ve got some wiggle room on the number so if we are a little over that’s okay. We just need to be careful when we start to approach.

message 104: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Good evening all! I'm working on checking books against what you have on your shelf and moving finished books over to our official team spreadsheet. Just a reminder to please make sure your completed books are on your Wheel Shelf - I've caught a few so far. We've got less than a week to that first check-in!

We are doing well - and just be on the look out for those letters that we will need to finish out words - especially I's, Q's, and U's. We will need other things to but those are on the higher end. We are sitting at about 86% of books claimed of what we can read - there is wiggle room though so I wouldn't worry too much about going significantly over at this point - the captains will keep an eye on it! If you aren't going to finish a book though, please move it off the spreadsheet so we can keep a good running count going. Thank you all! Keep it up awesome Team Capt and Croc!

Snezana | 339 comments How do we decide that the character is important enough that can be used in the spell out? There is a character named Qara in The Poppy War and I was wondering if I should add it to the spreadsheet.

message 106: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments oops, i just fixed mine so they should all be on my wheel shelf now

message 107: by Jillypenny (new)

Jillypenny | 193 comments Hi everyone! Just checking in. I've just finished a U audiobook book, I'm almost done my physical book, and I'm about to start a U physical book and determining my next audiobook while looking at the spreadsheet. Whew!
When do we find out what we're reading for the next round? Am I correct in thinking the next round starts on Friday?

message 108: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments i think it starts on saturday, and from what i remember of previous wheels i think they give us our new word on wednesday although they might have changed it, should be soon though.

message 109: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments The round ends on Saturday - here's a countdown https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

And yep, previous wheels we got the new words on Wednesdays :)

Kristel | 287 comments Just checking in to let you all know that I'm still playing:) Right now the book that I'm reading - A Desolation Called Peace - is so good! Just what I needed! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to read as much as I would have wanted to because work has been a bit of a nightmare. Probably have more time during the weekend and hopefully, I'll finish my book then:)

message 114: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments Hi team! The spell out words for round 2 are announced. I'm quite confused on how the Round 2 tag works. Is it for the book we read that must be tagged as that genre?

Judy | 4065 comments Alyana wrote: "Hi team! The spell out words for round 2 are announced. I'm quite confused on how the Round 2 tag works. Is it for the book we read that must be tagged as that genre?"

Yep exactly - however, tag doesn't mean MPG. below the MPGs, there's a little button "see top shelves" which gets you to the tags. only requirement is that a book has to be tagged that a minimum of 10 times.

Our tag is "urban fantasy" so you can either go through the tag pages of books you're thinking of reading ooooor trawl the genre page https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

We can also only claim this bonus 10 times, so only need 10 books for the maximum bonus points.

Yay for less difficult letters!!!!

Got it. Thanks Judy. I hope I can read at least one book for that genre as it's not my usual kind of book to read. I'll check out the list.

message 120: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments Thank you Judy for explaining how the tags work so well. First time wheel player and this group has definitely made it easier.

I believe I will be one book short by Saturday, which considering I moved across the country here, I'm feeling pretty good about. I know someone will pick up my slack for me this go around - thank you in advance! These next letters are going to be easy for some that I have high on my TBR list! Yay!

message 121: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Hello team! I've just done a full update and we're doing well!

A few things:

- We definitely need a few more Q books so keep them coming (or finish them lol - with the ones on the spreadsheet we should be in good shape)

- If you can have another look at your covers and find wheel-shaped things on them, that'd be great! We have space for 3 more and only 1 more on the planning spreadsheet.

- It'd be great if you could remove books you don't think you'll be finishing for this round so we can get an estimate of how close we are to the maximum (and/or give an update here how many books you think you'll be over/under your signup number. no need to repeat if you've already done that, of course!)

message 122: by Snezana (new)

Snezana | 339 comments I have finished The Poppy War and added Qara as an option to the spreadsheet. I'll finish The Alice Network tomorrow. And I'm certain I'll finish the rest of my books by Saturday evening.

message 123: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments i think girly drinks will be my last book for this round although if it turns out that it would be better to save it for next round i can do that too since it can only be used for O this round but could be used for G or M next round

message 124: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I plan to finish all of mine. However, I think I'm going to change the BOM House of Hollows to Round 2 and add another book for a letter we need. Do we still need a bunch of I's? Or should I add another Q?

message 125: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments I plan to finish HP5 and another book for this round. I will read the BOM for the next round.

Some more I's definitely wouldn't hurt! We have a few more Qs planned than that at the moment

message 127: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I will finish my Q book in the next two days. Biggest work event of the year this week on top of that funeral last week but then things majorly ease up for me!

Yes, will definitely finish before the round ends:)

message 129: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments I will finish my current book shortly, and added another I know I will finish by this before the clock runs out. It's not a Q or I, but just in case, it's another C or E.

I do have a question for future reading. Can we use anthologies/short story collections written by multiple authors? Other than the title, can we count/use the editor? Using authors or main characters I know would be ruled out, but was hoping to maybe use a few books if I get the chance that are collections, so thought I would ask now before I committed to them. If anything I can use them for extra side reading, hoping to finally get back into my groove next week as most boxes are finally unpacked.

I can't actually find it in the rules this time around but in the past it's always been: Both can be used, but the content should not be published individually (so basically it should be exclusive to the anthology/short story collection and not have their own books on goodreads). If it's an anthology consisting of several individually published works (e.g. Bridgerton Collection, Volume One, you'd have to add the 3 individual books)

For both you would use the editor instead of authors.

And I believe (main) characters from short stories within anthologies have been okay to use but I feel like character rules have become stricter recently...

message 131: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I will definitely finish The Cat Who Moved a Mountain for the Q and Aunt Dimity and the Summer King for the wheel by tomorrow. I'll hold off on the BOM till round 2....

message 132: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments i know i've used both authors and characters from short story collections in the past so unless they've changed things i think it's okay

message 135: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Based on what's currently on the tracking spreadsheet, we're a bit low on books (or well, could still max out the 109%) so if you want to squeeze in another one for round 1, we have space for that!

message 136: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I can probably do one more.

message 137: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I will finish mine tonight but probably not add another one!

I also put Lauri's books into the spreadsheet.

Alyana | 1064 comments Hello. Looks like we have more book points counted. Should I just count my book that I'm about to finish for the next round?

message 144: by Jackie (last edited Oct 23, 2021 06:30AM) (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments Just curious why only 75% of our book points are being counted on our team spreadsheet.

Looks like our target book # on the spreadsheet is only half of what it should be and so we're being penalized 25%.

Good spot, fixed that - there were some issues with the member info tab and fiddling with that must've messed up the main sheet formatting
