Sara Lara | 6 comments If I’m being honest, this book was a bit hard for me to get into. What I did like was how different ponyboy is compared to everyone else in his “gang” also known as the greasers. Ponyboy is focused on school and gets good grades on the other hand his brother sodapop dropped out of school to work full time at 16. Ponyboys older brother Daryl (darry) looks after both ponyboy and soda since their parents died so Daryl is really overprotective of his younger brothers, especially ponyboy. When ponyboy stayed out late one night, it put Daryl into a panic and things didn’t go too well when ponyboy came back home which caused ponyboy to run to a nearby park with Johnny. Of course once they were there, some socials decided to stir up some trouble with ponyboy and Johnny because they talked to some girls which turned out to be some of the socials girls. But that night, something crazy happened to one of the socials that will change things for Johnny and Ponyboy. This was the one part in the book that caught my attention Since things were finally starting to get interesting but it wasn’t until chapter 4. Overall, ponyboy is probably my favorite character in the book and thankfully the book is from his perspective. He’s thoughtful, smart, trustworthy, and a great friend. Most importantly, he’s a hero especially after what happened in the fire. Although I don’t like that he was smoking at such a young age but I take it that it was normal during the 1960s.
