it depends for me. if it's, like, a collector's edition or is expensive or something like that, i don't crack the spines i don't even read the book it's more for display. but a lot of my books are secondhand so cracking the spines doesn't matter

I got a paperback of the school for good and evil, I never intended to crack it but I couldn't read it. I was devastated when I saw the spine 😭
