Unknown Reader | 9326 comments At last, are you really really reluctant to share anything with your mom/dad because you’re not close enough and also because you’re scared it’ll turn into a lecture, joke, or a taunt ??

I only share things that I know she'll agree with. I don't share what I know she won't agree with because she's not very accepting of opinions and beliefs that contradict hers. she's got a fixed mindset that the only right way is her way and as I said before, I'm not stupid enough to challenge someone who has authority over me. she'll think she has to "fix" my views to match hers lmao

The fact that you had to adjust for your mother even though it should be the other way around :(( that's why children never get that close with their parents

precisely. her and I are cool, we talk sometimes but our relationship feels very superficial and it's a little draining having to constantly change the subject whenever she starts prying into my life or when a topic I know we'll disagree on comes up

I get how she wants to get to know your thoughts or something idk being a mother is also hard too since you took care of this child and when they get older they just drift away.. but the sad thing about it is that the mother's also the reason why their children are being like that :((

she was actually a whole continent away when I was younger, studying. it was only for a few years but it caused a strain in our relationship because I was old enough to realise she was choosing to leave and I was frustrated at being the only one with no parents amongst my friends (my grandparents looked after me till she finished but they were old so I got introduced to independence at a young age and now I have a really bad dismissive avoidant attachment style towards everyone and cannot stand vulnerability)

I’m really surprised at how some people are best friends with their parents.

message 6688: by iimpulsvbtch (new)

iimpulsvbtch | 1244 comments it makes me happy to know that there are parents that can think past all the ideologies of traditional parenting and who focus on having their children grow up in an environment where they feel safe enough to develop their thoughts and beliefs, and really just grow into themselves

I wonder the same thing... I think that I could't do it, because they still tell you what to do and all that, like there's no equality, and I think that's important in a friendship.

plus I couldn't tell my parents about all the bad things I do... And that's something I tell my friends...

iimpulsvbtch | 1244 comments I'm also so against teaching children what to believe and have no idea why so many adults continue to do it. I just can’t see my parents as best friends, or any one parents for that matter.

I think even if you’re close with your parents, there are still boundaries and authority ? Both which are important

That’s not something you have with your best friend.

Hmm….

“ Permissive or Indulgent parents mostly let their children do what they want, and offer limited guidance or direction. They are more like friends than parents.”

Now ? What’s your opinion ?
