Round One - 9 Oct - 23 Oct:
The wheel is spinning backwards in time, landing on Wheel-a-Thon II - our fabulous multi-hued wheel of colours.
This round is simple, almost the pure wheel experience: you'll get a colour spun, you spell out that colour as many times as possible during the round, but watch out for the over-reading penalty!
Each book you read will get page points as per the rules; you only get credit for ONE incomplete spell-out of your word.
Bonus Points
If you find a wheel on the cover of a book used in your spell-out you will get 5 bonus points. You can find a maximum of five wheels (25 bonus points). You can only find one wheel per book cover, so even if there are five wheels on the cover it only counts once.
What's a wheel? Any circular item that is designed to move - spinning wheels, Ferris wheels and bicycle wheels all work.

Update to Spell-it-Out Rules
Following feedback we have amended the rules on using non-fiction books in spell-outs. In the past there was confusion over which non-fic books could be used for character names.
For this wheel, NO non-fiction book can be used for character names.
You can still use author / title / audio narrator* / translator* for letters (*if applicable)
The updated rules are below, and embedded in the rules posts for the game.
How a "spell it out" works
Find the letters needed using the first letter in:
◈ book / series title*
◈ author first/last name
◈ FICTION ONLY: character name**
◈ If listening to the audio book: audio narrator first/last name
◈ If you are reading a translation: translator first/last name
* if the first word in the title/series is a definite or indefinite article you can ignore them if you prefer
** characters must be significant to the plot. you can use first, last or nickname.
Note that non-fiction books don't have characters
The Wheel has been spun for the first time! Everyone who has signed up has been spun into a time-focused team, and the words for the first round has been revealed!

As ever where the Chipmunks of Chaos and Creativity are concerned, be careful what you wish for!

Welcome to the fifth and final round of the Wheel of Wheels. We hope you have enjoyed the trip down memory lane as we start the round which inspired it all. You never know where mods are lurking and when remarks made in jest become challenge fodder. When someone says "next we'll have to spell out EXTREME QUALITY PIZZA", how is a mod to resist such a dare? Thus the Extreme Wheel was born.

The tasks are: cover colour (>50%), text that colour on cover, item that colour on cover, colour word in text, and colour word in title. Books can only be used for ONE colour task.

Theme
We decided to revisit our previous Wheel challenges, picking the best elements of each for this Wheel of Wheels challenge.
About this Challenge
◈ Starts on 9 October and runs for 10 weeks (ending 18 December)
◈ The start / end time for each round will be 9pm UK time
◈ The team with the highest points at the end of the game wins!
◈ Each fortnight the mods will “spin the wheel" and assign each team a word
◈ The team's task is to read books to spell out the word, gaining points per letter tiered by the book length (see below)
◈ Once teams have read their word for the week they can "re-read" the word to gain more letter points.
◈ Only one incomplete spell-out is allowed.
◈ Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count
◈ Books must be at least 160 pages in length.
Rules
◈ Audio books are allowed. For page numbers, use the "default" GR book page numbers. If the "default" is a Large Print version, use the next most popular edition for page numbers. If there is no print / ebook, then the audio book must be longer than 4 hours, and page numbers will be set at 160 pages, no matter how long the audio is.
◈ Books with MPGs Childrens / Kids / Poetry / Play / Graphic Novel / Illustrated / Photography / Art (or which have "Illustrated" in the title or an "Illustrator" contributor in the metadata) must have at least 40,000 words (must be a verified count. sites that provide estimated word counts are not valid sources for verifying word count). ArBookFind is a great site to double check (there are also .co.uk and .com.au versions). If in doubt, ask your captain. Another rule of thumb is the audiobook version should be over 4 hours.
◈ Any book in any language will count, as long as it meets the criteria.
◈ "Re-reads" will be allowed, if it has been six months since you have read the book. This includes listening to the audio version, if you've already read the book.
◈ Only books read during the specified round can be used (“read date” is what counts, not the day you start.) Books cannot be “banked” from previous rounds to use later in the challenge
Point System
◈ Books less than 160 pages = 0 points
◈ Books between 160 and 1000 pages = 0.1 points/page
◈ Books over 1000 pages = 100 points
(points will be rounded up/down from 0.5 as per standard maths)
Over-reading Penalty
If, as a team, you over-read compared to your sign-ups then a penalty will be applied to your page points
BOM Points
Participating in Book of the Month (BOM) discussions during the time frame of the challenge will score points as follows:
◈ 40 points for writing a discussion question set
◈ 20 points for participating in the discussion
How a "spell it out" works
Find the letters needed using the first letter in:
◈ book / series title*
◈ author first/last name
◈ FICTION ONLY: character name**
◈ If listening to the audio book: audio narrator first/last name
◈ If you are reading a translation: translator first/last name
* if the first word in the title/series is a definite or indefinite article you can ignore them if you prefer
** characters must be significant to the plot. you can use first, last or nickname.
Note that non-fiction books don't have characters
◈ This challenge involves adding a special bookshelf to your personal GRs bookshelves other than "read." You may choose a preexisting one.
◈ Those people who want to keep their Profiles Private, must be willing to "Friend" their Team Captain(s), the NBRC Mod account, or one of the Moderators, to allow page count verification and to assist you if you are having difficulty with your bookshelves.
◈ Please wait to be told to which Team you are assigned. It might take awhile; however, you will be able to count the books you have read from the START date of the challenge.
◈ Once you actually join, please check-in with your team discussion thread by posting the name of your bookshelf. Remember to add a HYPHEN between words for your bookshelf.
◈ Helpful Tip: Knowing about Sticky Shelves may help you put your assigned bookshelf near the top of your dropdown box.
◈ With MOBILE DEVICES there have been major problems when trying to add books. If that is all you have to access the Internet, or you don't know how to Cut & Paste on it, then this challenge probably is NOT the right fit for you.
◈ Discussion threads will be in the regular NBRC group. (No secret groups allowed)
◈ You do NOT have to join the discussion, if you don't want to; communicating via posting a book is good enough. Nevertheless, Your Team wants to know if you are still participating. We understand Real Life gets in the way. However, please plan to "check-in" in some manner at least once every week. If we don't hear from you for two weeks, you may be replaced with another team member and be prevented from joining future team challenges
Sign-Up Information
********SIGN-UPS ARE NO LONGER GUARANTEED A PLACE ON A TEAM, BUT WILL GO ON THE RESERVE LIST********
