NancyJ wrote: "Can anyone recommend any first in series books that fit for November? Veteran's day, Elections, Fall, Native American, etc. ..."All these are first in a series that I have read and enjoyed:
War Horse - Veteran's Day
Navajo Autumn - set in the Fall & Native American
Regeneration - Veteran's Day
Code Name Verity - Veteran's Day
Dances with Wolves - Native American
I am currently reading:
Love Medicine - Native American
I am reading After the Armistice Ball first in series set in 1923 England and revolves around events at post-war Armistice Day honoring - November 11.
@ Nancy, Last year I read Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick. I really enjoyed that. I read the paperback and also the audiobook for when I was on the go. Both were good.
Ooh maybe Virgin River by Robyn Carr. Lots of military guys in that series I think. I haven’t read the books but I have watched the first season of the show.

I have really enjoyed those books. Not so much the series adaptation.
@ Theresa, I’m a Navy Vet (2003 to 2007). After the Navy I spent 10 years avoiding life…. And also being my grandfather’s care taker. It was as hard seeing him die in 2017 (and later my 17 year old dog in 2020) and I think that’s why the show Virgin Rivers depressed me so much.

These are romances after all where each book has 2 main characters who have to overcome their pasts to find it. I suspect, Michelle, that the books would be far less depressing for you than the tv series adaptation because for tv they need to prolong the resolution of the drama. Sometimes for too long.
The books of course also bring you into a community you follow book to book, but in a generally upbeat way.

The Usual Santas: A Soho Crime Holiday Anthology is available today in ebook for $1.99. This is a wonderful collection of Christmas themed short stories by some of Soho Crimes A-list of crime fiction writers. I highly recommend.

I’m so glad I’m not alone. Would anyone be surprised to know if I have a 2022 flurries list ready and waiting?
Amy wrote: "I’m so glad I’m not alone. Would anyone be surprised to know if I have a 2022 flurries list ready and waiting?"😅 Nope. And, since I have specific shelves named 'Christmas' and 'Thanksgiving', and lots of fall/Halloween on my 'cozy mystery' and 'contemporary romance' shelves, plus a few on 'classics' shelf, I am set.
