Angsty romance with hero grovelling for forgiveness in the end

I want a book with a hero who is an asshole to the heroine due to misunderstanding or his upbringing. I especially love when a mistress or other jealous woman makes mischief between the couple. But in the end, the H realises his mistakes and he should move heaven and earth to get back into the h's good graces. Especially he should confront each mistake he did before. He should punish those who had tried to harm his wife/lover. Not a simple sorry and makeup.

Preferably historical romance. Bodice ripper is fine. If cheating cannot be avoided in the plot, then the making up has to be that much better.

I recently read Fire Song by Catherine Coulter. It had all the angsty elements but the hero didn't grovel much and he did nothing to all the people who had troubled his wife. I need a book that will end with satisfaction.

Oh and if H rapes h, then they should be at least married or soon to marry. a good contemporary theme would also work for me
