Thanks so much! That is a diverse group. All sound really interesting. I had only heard of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, but not much. More books to read 📚 :-)

Thank you so much. Love that I have more 📚 to read!
you should read any by Jirge Luis Borges, argentinian, or maybe Isabel Allende, I've read the house of spirits and Paula they are really good
Betsy wrote: "The Millenium series by Stieg Larsson"Thanks for the recommendation. I appreciate it a lot. I do have this series. I believe after he died someone took over and finished his last book. My dad has that one and lives close by. I have been meaning to read this series. I never understand people who don’t have enough books to read, that is definitely not my problem! 📚😀

Betsy, think we have similar taste in books. It is nice that you made all these suggestions. I have The Kite Runner and 2 other books by Khaled Hosseini. Need to read those, too. Reading Lolita in Tehran I loved. Incredible, that someone has to put their life in jeopardy just so girls can read.

I just ordered Moonstone, brand new, hardcover from Amazon, had 1 copy on sale for $8, so ordered that last night. Now it’s back to $19. Wolf Winter, have a site that owes me a free book, and think that will be my pick. So, really thanks 😊

Again, great selections. My library has Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, so put a hold on that. In in a couple of weeks.
Then, ordered [bookcover:Bonjour Tristesse and A Certain Smile|29845678]. That one sounds really intriguing.
Just to give you an update, Bonjour Tristesse came in and love that it on my book shelf. I have Drive My Plow Over the Bones of the Dead on my library book list, so can take it out anytime. Thanks 😊

Isabel Allende, yes have read several of her books. Recently, got a copy of The Soul of a Woman which was Non-Fiction. She speaks of her life has a lot to say. Loved that one. I have Paula and A Long Petal of the Sea I thought was an incredible book. Read that in January. Her new book, Violeta, I lucked out and got an early copy of. She is a wonderful writer. Thank you 😊 so much for the suggestions.

Thanks again, both books came in. Beautiful book Moonstone and Wolf Winter Sounds so interesting.
Japan's literary scene might be worth exploring. Murakami, Ishiguro (full disclosure: I haven't read either of those authors. But I want to. They're both well-known, highly regarded novelists).Out by Natsuo Kirino, which I have read, is a harrowing thriller.

Really? I didn't realize that. I guess I just assumed that since the authors were native Iranians that they would have written originally in their native language. Persian?

right? it's pretty amazing when you think about it! i can't imagine writing a novel in my native language let alone one in a second language. hosseini is afghan but he went to high school, college, & med school here in the US. he speaks both pashto & persian (dari). nafisi is iranian & went to school in england & then college in the US where she became an english lit professor. if i was typing this on my phone i would insert the head blown emoji *here*. to have mastered a second language well enough to teach it, write a book, or practice medicine is unfathomable.

I totally agree. BTW, I'm not accepting your friend request. It's not personal; I just don't do the friends thing much. I prefer to interact within groups like this. I tried to send you a PM but it said you wouldn't accept. So ...

Hello. Have you ever come across, Archipelago Books? They are a publishing house dedicated exclusively to translated works. I originally came across them because the book stood out once on a shelf because of the size and beautiful cover (they’re much smaller books, but typeface is normal and easy to read). I highly recommend a little novella called Eastbound to start.
