Theresa | 15664 comments It feels like September is racing to end! That is in part because of the impact of the Jewish Holidays. At least that's true here in NYC. Work moves forward in fits and starts, with a couple intense days then a lull. While it makes scheduling conferences a PITA, it also gives me a time to catch my breath and even relax a bit more. Pre-pandemic, I would often plan vacations for this time as work would be pretty much as slow as it ever gets.

I'm about to head out for a mani/pedi - long overdue. Also about time for another haircut.

Broadway is slowly reopening although I'm not quite ready to deal with that. Ditto the opera. But I am starting to push myself to get out of the apartment and get on a better schedule - cautiously change those lockdown habits.

Yes, I noticed on my calendar that Yom Kippur starts at sunset tomorrow. When I lived in Ottawa I had 2 calendars for teaching piano; one for my Jewish students (by the end of my time there 2/3 of my private students were Jewish through word of mouth) and the other for all of the others due to Jewish holidays. Many of them attended a private Jewish school.

It is NYC law to show proof of vaccination to dine inside a restaurant, among other places. Outside dining is still very much an option at all restaurants if you are not vaccinated or don't want to show your card. I have zero tolerance for anyone behaving as these women did. They deserve jail time and I hope the woman they attacked brings a civil suit against them.

In some way it is even worse that these are visitors to NY, guests in my town.

Booknblues | 12150 comments Incredible! I am all for heavy fines for this kind of thing. My tolerance has completely disappeared.

Our slow-to-act government has finally put in a vaccine passport (though they outright refuse to use those words!). BUT, this should have been done a month ago (at least).

In the meantime, even as ICU capacity continues to be added, they are saying at the current rate it will be 100% full by the end of the month.

This means "triaging"... which one doctor defined a bit more clearly/bluntly - they will have to decide between who to treat - of those who are dying and could be saved!!! (Ok, not those exact words, but that's the gist!)

In addition to plenty of other surgeries being cancelled (for space and staff) , the children's hospital will be closing 5/8 operating rooms. Kids! Will not get surgeries they need because of selfish people worried about their "rights and freedumbs"!

omg! I don't even like kids much, but seeing a baby on the news who needs surgery who will have to wait was bringing tears to my eyes... :'(

Saw that in my news feed this morning. Geez Louise! Definitely lock those bullies up ... and "deport" them from NY and never let them come back.
