Okay, since we have split the interest to original and true hardboiled and then everything else. I have everything else, and since I tend to write under that heading personally (Dystopian Sci-fi Noir anyone?) hopefully it gives me more of an insight?

My first two suggestions and feel free to add your own of course for next month's book read and a little extra. I have mentioned them both before under different sections but now this is the final and correct one.

1. Get Carter by Ted Lewis
This is classic British Gangster uncut, they made a film with Michael Caine about it which is a classic of its genre. If we do this one maybe we need to add the film in as possible viewing. But please note the Stallone movie remake is to be avoided at all cost! Set in the Northern parts of England.

2. Fadeout by Joseph Hansen
The first Dave Brandstetter investigation, this is a classic PI novel, the start of a series of twelve. Involving a gay insurance investigator. Joseph is the best descriptive writer out there and yes it is about a gay man but it is barely mentioned within the book. Set in 1970s Los Angeles.

So that is my suggestion, you can argue, plead, discuss or even add your own suggestions?

Zain I’ve definitely seen the Michael Caine movie (I’ve seen them all), so reading the book will be interesting.

I’m not sure about the second book, but I would definitely be ready to vote on one of these selections.

Just notify me when the polls are open.

Hi Zain, what did you think of the movie?

The second book is diff, it was the first openly gay character as the hero of a detective series and it is brilliantly done. I appreciate even nowadays some people will not be interested because of it but I wanted to open up the field for a more completist interest.

I enjoy books more for the excellence of the writing, something I can steal from maybe? :) And the Brandstetter books are masterworks in this sphere.

In three or four days the polls will open, so if anyone has any ideas on other books, they dont have much time.
