Jen K | 572 comments Hey Michelle! Awesome to have another paranormal fan on the team! I hadn't quite picked a book so it would be great if you managed that one.

On the page numbers, not a stupid question at all. I feel like every group and challenge approaches it differently. Here, I believe it is fine to use the page numbers of the actual book version that you are reading. But also fine if you just go by the GR page number.

I think the way you're doing it (using the GR physical page count) is the correct way!

message 103: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 55 comments cool, I wasn't sure how to translate kindle pages to physical pages lol. So if I read 70 pages in Kindle, it's okay to call it 70 and not try to figure out how many pages that translates for the physical book. I don't want to skew the numbers incorrectly for my daily reading count :)

Kim (kmyers) | 539 comments It was a busy day today, all I managed (so far) is one hour of audio. I'm not sure whether I'll read more tonight or just watch some tv. I do hope to finish this audio book by this weekend, though. Has anyone read I'm a Stranger Here Myself Notes on Returning to America After Twenty Years Away by Bill Bryson ?

message 105: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 130 comments I finished How the Light Gets In and logged it under Light Source on the Cover. Feel free to move it to another category marked in the plans pages on the spreadsheet if needed. That gives me 204 pages for Friday.

message 106: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments I was out all evening today, and didn't get much chance to read. I only managed to read 78 pages, which means I still need to finish Gods and Monsters tomorrow. Sorry!

Totally agree!

Sorry. I haven't read that.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned there is no apology needed!

We do what we can do!

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments sorry I've been mia the last couple of days, I was busy busy with work. I've been listening to House of Evil in my off time though. I should have it finished here this afternoon, only have just over an hour of listening left. I'm thinking we can definitely use it for the long hair prompt if you look at the little picture in the bottom left corner House of Evil by John Dean

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments Also I could move Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the "fiery character" prompt to even out dragon a little more. RBG was quiet, but definitely fiery with all of her dissents

That sounds like a great idea.

Kim (kmyers) | 539 comments Who knew that finding books with a person with long hair on the cover would be such a challenge?

message 115: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Happy weekend everyone! Finished my book with a source of light last night and orange cover this morning. Once animal print gets filled, we will have another dragon.

It is kind of funny how much we are struggling with long hair prompt.

message 116: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished House of Evil. If you guys agree with my small picture counting as long hair I can place it there. Let me know what you all think.

Yea, long hair!

message 119: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) @Brittany
Awesome that you completed the long hair prompt.

I'm finishing up The Lady Matador's Hotel by Cristina García and will use it to complete our second Banshee.

Then I'll finish A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2) by V.E. Schwab for the OGRE prompt and we'll have completed our second Ogre.

I'll go ahead and read Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid to complete our second Dragon.

Wow, that's great!

message 121: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Fabulous! I'm on target to finish Maiden Voyages Magnificent Ocean Liners and the Women Who Traveled and Worked Aboard Them by Siân Evans for black and white cover and Small Country by Gaël Faye for short book. Both will work towards the Wraith.

message 122: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 130 comments I finished listening to Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood today (I think the only place it works is the NORBERT criteria to slay a dragon, so that's where I put it). I've also started Lobizona for the animal print criteria - I'm 113 pages in and plan on finishing it by the end of the day tomorrow!

message 123: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) Two banshees obliterated! 😁

message 124: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments I finally finished off Gods & Monsters (I only had 87 pages left)! I also got a great start on The Maidens which I should be able to easily finish tomorrow. I read 130 pages of that one in about 3 hours. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to squeeze in one more thing afterwards too.

message 125: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Nice work everyone! Rachel, I'm going to put your book for title starts with a letter in Ogre to finish off the second ogre!

message 126: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) I'm about done with A Gathering of Shadows. Not sure where you-all would like it to count. I'll let you know when I'm done. I'll be gone for 3-4 hours this afternoon, so it probably won't be until late this afternoon or evening.

message 127: by Lisa (last edited Sep 19, 2021 02:42PM) (new)

Lisa | 130 comments I finished Lobizona! I enjoyed it and am glad I was able to get the second book in the duology on Friday from the library. I may get a few more pages in yet today, but there won't be anymore finishes from me. I've updated the spreadsheet. It was a great week everyone!

message 128: by Jen K (last edited Sep 19, 2021 03:02PM) (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Awesome work everyone! @Lisa, glad the book was so good that you are on to the next one.

I finished Maiden Voyages Magnificent Ocean Liners and the Women Who Traveled and Worked Aboard Them by Siân Evans for the black and white cover. Also since there was an extra rural setting, I shifted my earlier book, Disco For The Departed, from there to the paranormal slot to finish off the wraith.

I will probably get in some more pages and hours but no more finishes expected. It's been fun!

message 129: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmyers) | 539 comments I finished Nomadland Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder , and started and finished With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo today. Not sure they fit anywhere, I'll just log the pages and hours. It's been great fun to read with you all. Shout out to Lynn who captained this team in all but name.

message 130: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments Probably too late now, but I just finished The Maidens! 203 pages read in total today.

message 131: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) I just added the last three books I finished reading last night. I was able to use two of them to complete another Harpy, our third. 😁

I got close to breaking the 2000 page mark for the week. That's pretty good for me. Unfortunately, I was busier than usual this second weekend which decreased my reading time, but I'd say we did well, Team Earthsea!!

@Kim I didn't mean to usurp the captain position. I just like to try to encourage everyone...
And what did you think of With the Fire on High?

@Rachel IMO, it is NEVER too late...unless it is according to the rules! LOL

Congrats on the 2000 page mark! I didn't feel you usurped the position at all. It was my first time volunteering and I really didn't have any idea what to do, I appreciated everything you did.

Loved With the Fire on High, it's a 5 star read for me, which makes it in the top 10% of the books I read this year. Did you read it? What did you think?

I have not yet read it but am considering placing it in the queue for next year. Good to know you thought so highly of it!

message 134: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) These Team Read-a-Thons do require each team member to pitch in and do whatever they can to make the event enjoyable and successful. And we all bring different skills and experience to the project. That makes it so much fun, IMO!

Thank you to Jen K who took the initiative to better organize the spreadsheets, etc.

And thank you, Kim, for serving as captain. That's a lot of responsibility--trying to wrangle the rest of us! LOL

@Alisa, Brittany, Rachel, Lisa, Michelle, and Dubhease: Each and every member contributed as much as they were able. I have been involved in team read-a-thons where some members contributed nothing and didn't even participate. I appreciated that didn't happen with Team Earthsea!

Happy Reading, everyone! It will take me the better part of this week to record all these books in the many different challenges in which I am participating this year!

Thank you!

I loved this book and all of Elizabeth Acevedo's work and definitely recommend the audio version as her writing is partly spoken word poetry.

Jen K | 572 comments Thanks Kim for captaining! Thanks Lynn for the extra encouragement!

Thanks to everyone for the active participation and easy collaboration! Hope everyone enjoyed the reads!

message 137: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 55 comments I feel like such a let down, at least to myself. I totally forgot the first week to keep track of my reading, so had to fill it in the best I could. I know I read more than I put down lol. Then this week I didn't get as far along in my book as I thought I would. :( Usually 500 pages is not too hard for me to get through, but with two jobs, life has kept me on my toes. Congrats to those that read so many pages, that's amazing!
