Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, 3 stars

This is a great YA story about teenagers coming to terms with who they are, one of whom has been depressed, angry and self-isolating for years. While I liked the idea of the story, I kept putting it down. Key aspects in the story were oversimplified but stretched out too long for my taste. YA is hit or miss with me, and I'm not in the target market. Some scenes did resonate with me, and I liked both sets of parents (though they were too perfect). The title and cover led me to think there might be something more magical or profound.

The LGBTQ tags were a bit of a spoiler and also misleading. To me this wasn't a gay story as much as it was a story about Aristotle's depression, and the power of friendship. The audio narrator was Lin Manuel Miranda, who is very upbeat, and anything but depressed and antisocial.
