Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex was on of our winners for Septembers shows. A cyber punk classic!

This is set in the far future, where cybernetics and robotics are very advanced. It follows major Motoko Kusanagi and Section Nine, who investigate cybernetic hacking. There are lots of influences from J.D Salinger sprinkled throughout as well.
This has spawned video games, several movies and has two seasons for a total of 48 episodes. The second season was called Second Gig.

I watched season one a whike ago and have season two as well. I'll have to break it out sometime soon! As with Deadman Wonderland, one of the songs is stuck in my head, this time the end song Lithium Flower.

I never got into SAC. I really enjoy the original film but everything else in the franchise didn’t resonate with me personally.

I have a question, guys: do I have to watch the movie or the show first?

I’m not sure if the movie is a requirement for the show but you may want to give it a watch and see if it’s something you’d enjoy before diving into a large series. The movie itself is enjoyable though the whole franchise is a little convoluted at times.

I watched just the show and didn't feel like I was missing anything, though like Greg said, may be good to start with that to see if you enjoy it.
