Nelly_K | 17 comments I've seen examples like this for a couple of times already, and am not sure what to do: an author assignes his/her book a number in a series that he/she later abandons. The book is reissued in several years under the same title, but it belongs in a new series now. So, we have (presumably, as I have no way of knowing if the text itself has been rewritten/edited) two editions of the same book on this author's page, but the title page says Series X in one case and series Y in another. Let's say, series X is abandoned and Series Y is still being published. Should I merge the two books or create two different series, following the information on the title page?

Miriam | 1831 comments Different editions may have different series listed in the title field. But a work would have a first listed series.

The edition would have the series it was published under in the title field (especially if it was on the cover).

Depending on how many books were published in the original series and if all of those books became part of the new series, would determine if there needs to be 2 series. This is a case by case basis.

Regardless of the series issue, if they are the same book they get combined on Goodreads (merge means to delete in Goodreads terminology and would not apply in this case).

Nelly_K | 17 comments Thank you for the reply.
As it turned out, I still need help with this book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
The author has the complete Montrose Academy set (6 books) out now (information from her own twitter page), and it doesn't include the "Awakening".
I've already combined all the editions of The Nexis Secret and Crossing Nexis. Could you please give me some advice? Should I leave them like that or separate them again? And what correct # should the "Awakening" book have?

Miriam | 1831 comments So the author does have the book listed on her website as part of the series. http://www.barbarahartzler.com/montro...

The version she had listed is the newsletter freebie, but since the edition we have was actually listed on Amazon it stays.

This would make it book 0.5 (since it's a short story). Reading order she has it as 1.5, but since it's a prequel I would still use 0.5 (just make to mark it as non-primary). You can put her reading order in the series description if you want.

Since there is no series listed on the book cover, you could remove the series information from the title field. Either way the title field needs to be cleaned up. I would personally just leave the title and not the series information.

You were correct on combining the other books.

Nelly_K | 17 comments Thank you. I think I found a compromise.
