Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Me, too. 6 up, 2 down.

If the Tarot gets in I'm going to do a side challenge.

I also changed my mind. I went 5 up, 3 down.

Hannah Peterson | 700 comments I like a bunch of these prompts! I'll be voting for First Contact, and I think probably also bees - The Beekeeper of Aleppo is on my TBR. I just recently read The History of Bees for the past/present/future prompt and loved it, so that would be one of my recommendations if this one makes it. I also like the idea of "two of a kind," maybe a book related to twins or best friends, or with a dual timeline. I also really like the idea of the ancient artifact or structure, though I have no idea what I'd read for it. I'll also probably vote for the random genre generator - I like that it could be a way to try a new or out-of-our-comfort-zone genres for those of us that like that kind of thing, while not forcing anyone to read a genre that they're really not interested in.

I'm still trying to decide about the two women prompts. On the one hand, I'm not feeling particularly inspired by them at the moment (and not sure why - I love books about women and love books about feminism but maybe something about the way the prompts are worded is not leading me anywhere.) On the plus side, either one would lend itself well to nonfiction and I'm always trying to make sure I get a few of those on my list. I'm also having trouble with atmospheric - I love reading atmospheric books, but they're sometimes hard to predict ahead of time!

It's good to hear more positives about the History of Bees. I might end up reading it before 2022.

Hanna, it might help to look at the book lists more closely. When I saw the new lists of books about women who changed the world, I started to feel inspired. I haven't felt at all excited about biographies and nonfiction until now. If I could only choose one, it would be the second one. I've been sorely disappointed by the fiction books about women overcoming obstacles. Most writers haven't spent enough time in large organizations (or politics) to have a clue about how insidious and subtle those obstacles are. If I could write, I would write a novel that included some of the specific policies that really make a difference, and show how to make them work for you. If this prompt wins, I'll try to find some professional development books to recommend.

Based on the story I read about you (you're legendary!), I have no doubt that you will read enough books to find several atmospheric books without trying. So if you like that kind of book, I would vote to make a spot for it. I can't always predict how a book will make me feel either, but shelf tags, reviews and recommendations all help.

These two categories, plus First Contact are my favorites in this poll. I know that there has to be a prompt about leftover suggestions, but I'd prefer it with different wording.

So far I've found:

doppelgangers

Thank you so much for this comment!! I was about to downvote it because I almost never come across twins or clones in the books I read (and that was all I saw in the Listopias under the suggestion), but the idea of doppelgangers/look-a-likes, plastic surgery, and a creepy person in the mirror are all so interesting!!

Irene (irene5) | 915 comments I ended up going with the prompts that seem the most original, and downvoted the two that I found too vague and easy (I think literally every book I've read this year could work for the major life event and theme of courage). So even though I have no idea what to read for the 6 prompts I upvoted (ancient artifacts, nomads, favorite holiday, etc) I like that they're not repeats of prompts I've done before (are there any books about Thanksgiving??). For me personally, there are quite a few freebies on the list already so I'd like more of a challenge going forward.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen/filled out my survey link, I'd really really appreciate it if you could do that by Saturday!! I know not everyone follows the Wild Discussion, so I thought I'd post it here too: https://forms.gle/RSsoRFmh98QDCipq6
(I wouldn't feel comfortable suggesting the prompt if the list is only at 30 books when the next poll comes around since there's no guarantee more people will fill out the survey)

Weirdly enough, I almost read this this year for a book associated with a specific season, but Still Life's description talks about finding a body in the woods on Thanksgiving Weekend, so there you go! :)

Marie | 1064 comments I have Janet Evanovich's Thanksgiving sat on my shelf just in case there's ever a Thanksgiving-specific prompt!

You're not making this easy Amy. I didn't like that tool, but I might like another one. I need to cut down my list, not add one back. lol Too many choices. Would it be cheating if I only put genres on the dice that I know I like?

I think I'm also going with tarot, two of a kind, and first contact.
First contact is me being courageous, so I'm going with courage, atmospheric, 1 or both women, holidays, which doesn't leave me any downvotes. I keep changing my mind, and then back again.

Yes, there are books about Thanksgiving. They'll start showing up in the blogs soon. All the Fall stuff is already in my grocery store.

Irene (irene5) | 915 comments Thanks Katie, Marie, and Pearl!! I've never come across a book that featured Thanksgiving (aside from a brief chapter or two) so I'm glad they exist! Hahaha

Truman Capote has one
Many people read about the native americans instead of the pilgrims

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Barnes & Noble has a list of 14 whole books about Thanksgiving! Most of them are cozy mysteries.

Nope, that wouldn't be cheating at all!
