No definitely not my idea of Ian. Even though I know DG describes him as being homely. I think Ian should be better looking then this guy. He looks too wimmy, Ian should be a warrior he should be tall, with dark hair (like an indian). I also think the show need a few more good looking men. Sam, Tobias and Cait are carrying the show now by themselves. The old scots are not pleasant to look at. I think if the are going to cast Ian, Bree, and Roger they should be casting better looking characters it would draw in more younger views. This guy just doesn't do it for me.

Diane | 1360 comments Ian was not good looking though and when he was first introduced into the story line he was a young teen. He grew into that warrior. As far as hair color goes that is always irrelevant because that is easily changed. Besides he was not an Indian he was adopted into the tribe. I also disagree about adding good looking actors. For me if everybody is eye candy it makes it less realistic. They have done an awesome job of getting the gritty dirty to make it more realistic. I would not say good looks is carrying the show it is the wonderful writing and acting that draws me in. Sam is sure easy on the eyes though:)

Sonya (shooten) | 26 comments In response to the statement that Mary made "I think the show needs a few more good looking men." I have to disagree. As reader of the books since the early 90's and of that slightly older generation, I have to say that Dougal with his bald head, sexy accent and rough but protective ways can make my heart skip a beat! Don't get me wrong Jamie is the complete package an honorable, hard body man who is sexy as all get out, but even though he has proven that he likes older woman, at the age he is now in the story he would look very funny on my arm!

I love looking at the eye candy on the show. However, I also enjoy listening to the Gaelic accents as well. I'm not sure what it is but that deep male guttural voice but that sound just goes all through me! I also want to say that I love Caitriona as Clare. I was skeptical at first because she really isn't the same body type as Clare and I didn't know if Clare's strength would come through, but she has done a fantastic job with the role! We ladies love the men, but we have to give praise to the actresses as well!

I am so impressed with the authenticity to the time period that they have brought to show. There are a couple of things that I wish they had done differently or stuck to the book more closely, but overall I couldn't be more pleased with the show!

I think Graham is great too as Dougal. But I look at the fans of the show and there are a lot of middle aged people. Perhaps adding some younger good looking people for Bree, Roger, Ian, Fergus, Marsalli would ramp up the show to attract young people not only to the show but to reading the books. I think that would be a good thing. :))

Looks like they are already doing that, they just added a hottie for the role of Le Conte St. Germain. Stanley Weber.

Diane | 1360 comments The whole "good looking" thing seems so shallow to me. The books were not written about beautiful people - they were written more realistically about strong characters. If I want eye candy I will go somewhere else. I want content quality and something more realistic here. The writers have done an awesome job making this have a feel of the dirty and gritty, hard life these characters endured. DG talks about poor hygiene, bad teeth rough or horrible living conditions through out the books. The characters should reflect that not the 21st century's idea of beauty.

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments Dang Brizo! He is a hottie!
God I can't wait for season 2!

I personally don't mind that there is not as much eye candy on the show as there are on others.
The show has so much substance that it doesn't need a bunch of eye candy rolling about taking attention away from such a phenomenal story.
However, I always welcome a pretty face and a hard body. And in the words of Oscar Wilde; " Only the shallow know themselves.
And I know I love a great story and good looks don't hurt either. :p

Exactly! Doesn't attractiveness really depend on each individual person?

I think Mary was talking about attracting younger fans, if I look at shows popular with the young (Reign, Vampire Diaries, the Originals, Arrow), etc. lots of young beautiful people which is what attracts young people. That doesn't preclude having some older people too, nor having a good story. Reign is a good story. Oh well, we're not doing the casting so it really doesn't matter.

Yes, internal beauty last forever, external beauty fades pretty quickly a person's personality can make them just as attractive to others, but in TV land that may not hold true otherwise why do they get rid of woman actresses after they reach 40? Let's face it TV is a shallow medium.
