The probably did it from a point of love. Thinking that if Abby was unclear on what she saw they were better not to push and upset her. Not sure what the psychological ramifications of this would be long term and what a health professional would advise. They weren't really shutting her down as she wasn't really bringing it up with them, was she? They probably thought better to let sleeping dogs lie.
I think it was wrong. They both knew that the incident bothered Abby even if she didn't talk about it. They should have set up family therapy to help her remember and get through it.
I think it was wrong too. Abby wasn't a young child and this affected her a lot. Her family should had helped her remember what really happened.
Sharon wrote: "I think it was wrong. They both knew that the incident bothered Abby even if she didn't talk about it. I think now that is what health professionals would recommend.
This book wasn’t written that long ago. Hiding reality from a child is one thing but continuing that into adulthood is another matter. This was a decision her father and sister made, not the therapist. It was really wrong and Abby almost lost her life because of it.
Most memories like this can’t be repressed for life. It’s how the brain works and they resurface in strange, painful ways.
