Full name or initials?

I see at least three with initials: Glaxo, Capital, Entrepreneurs and Profits and Enterprise, Management and Innovation in British Business, 1914-80.
simply merge it into the full profile
No, that's not an option here. It would be within policy when both are changed/merged into Richard P.T. Davenport-Hines, but personally I dislike that, as it isn't on any cover and only adds to confusion. And for this specific author, it looks like the initials are used on scientific publications and the first name on more popular non-fiction, to deliberately keep them separated. Adding the other name would go against that.
Just cross-reference both author profiles, and correct the editions that now have a different version than what is on the cover.

It feels as if sometimes a full author name and that author's name with initials only aren't quite the same. But maybe I'm not looking at it correctly, so input requested.
Richard Davenport-Hines and
R.P.T. Davenport-Hines
are the same author. I haven't thoroughly explored, but I know that at least one title is published only with initials. I can easily cross-reference the profile with initials, or simply merge it into the full profile. If cross-referenced, in the instance of the title(s) published only in initials, should all editions carry both author names? Which do you think more fully complies with policy?
