I didn't really click with any of the characters in this story. I found Suzanne to be a horrible sleuth. I get that cozy mysteries are about the regular person solving the crime but she was so bad at it that even the other characters were telling her she wasn't being sly and to just let the cops do their job. The thing I liked the most was that there were donut recipes at the end of each chapter. Not that I will be making any of them...I can barely boil water... but it gave the whole book it's cozy factor.

Yep, that is the way it is done. You claim five words a week.

Hope your layover isn't too long Danielle! And I love that series. One of my all time favorites.
I look forward to seeing everyone's reviews! We need to have them posted on this thread by Friday noonish Eastern time. That will give me time to make sure it's correct and post. I will update our spreadsheet.

Happy Valentines Day everyone. Hope you have much joy and laughter and love in your life today and everyday.

I started my book but had to change it to the one before. I thought I was further along in the series than I was. I'm always doing that. Enjoy your day.

I finished my book - will post my review later today.
Have a great day everyone - hope the weather isn't too bad wherever you are.

This has always been a difficult series for me - there are things I like and things I'm not so crazy about. But I loved this one! Give me a tortured hero any day and in this case we have lots of torture to go around. But luckily it didn't go into detail like some other books. Aiden/Declan is a difficult hero to love and yet the author manages to make him sympathetic. And Regin is all surface charm until she begins to fall in love with Declan. The book doesn't really pick up until Regin meets up with Declan and at that point it becomes engrossing. I couldn't put it down. And Lothaire makes quite an appearance as well, which is exciting!

Leslie that's one of my favorite series! You are in for a treat with

How is everyone doing on their reading? Check in and let us know.

These temps are crazy! I live in Vermont and I love winter but this is too cold. My poor hubby. The guy who sold us his jeep gave us the wrong windows and then never returned our calls. So my poor hubby has been driving without windows until yesterday when he finally found some that fit.

I will heading up to Shreveport again on Friday, but I will be on the computer later in the day. So no worries.

I know this book is soon to be made into a film and it is going to be great. It isn't just a gangster flick. The story of Joe Coughlin's rise from petty thief to one of the most powerful gangsters in the USA during the prohibition era is brilliant and Joe himself is a very human hero. About the only thing I didn't like was the end, but that isn't because it wasn't good. If fact, the it ended exactly as it should have - it was perfect - but I still didn't want it to happen!
blue: Page 9 - "The sky was a hard blue streaked with hard yellow."
flame: Page 59 - "...the rest of it charred, a few greasy blue flames still dancing on the roof."
city: Page 16 - "...a houseboat that had been serving alcohol since the first sun to rise on Boston under Prohibition."
friend: Page 53 - "Friend of the common man, buy your mother a winter coat as long as you used your body to keep him warm."
bottle: Page 34 - "...even after half a bottle of good Irish."

How is everyone else doing?

It would really help me out if you create a separate post for your review next week. No need to change anything now. It creates a better flow to the thread and I think the mods want it that way as well. Thanks!!
We are doing great, Lemon Drops!

How is everyone else doing?"
Highly recommended, Leslie. It was completely unexpected - although I have seen the film of Shutter Island which was brilliant.

I am sorry I waited so long to get into Nora Roberts books, I love them.
She has a great way of mixing just enough romance with a dash of intrigue to keep you hooked.
A lot of her books have an Irish theme which I also love, being of Irish heritage. With this book there was a strong Irish feel with a tight family bond. Bring in an alpha male in the form of Travis Grant and you have a winning combination. After the death of her Aunt Adelia Cunnane's moves from Ireland to Maryland to live with her Uncle. Working in the finest horse farm in the state. Falling in love with the horses and Travis Grant., she agreed to marry him after her Uncle has a heart attack and definitely gets more than she bargained for!
Blue - Loc 38 :he caught a glimpse of eyes as bright and blue as her father's
Flame -Loc 376: she exploded like a burst of flame
Friend - Loc 253: That I will, Master Michael, as soon as I've finished with my friend
Bottle - Loc 668: Other times he'll drink his fill of the milk or poteen and fill up the bottle with water.
City: - Loc 2075: He goes into Dublin now and again

This is my second time reading Bec McMaster. It has been some time since I read book 1 but jumping right into this one was pretty easy. At first I was skeptical and even didn't like Lena, the heroine. I couldn't see the motivation or reasons behind a lot of her actions. But as the story progressed I started to like her more. There is a lot of angst in this story for the first 50% or so. A lot of back and forth between Will and Lena. They go through the song and dance of Will saying - she's too good for me but I want her. Lena saying - I want to fit into polite society but I want him. Then Will being like I'm so consumed with you but you are too good for me and then Lena is like eff polite society let's do that damn thing and so on and so forth.
I also really liked how the story is being escalated beyond just the romance and you can see elements of a great arc forming around the humanist revolt.
Overall I really like the world that Bec McMaster has created. To me this reads like a historical with steampunk elements. I don't know if it is full on steampunk since I've also never read something that was straight up steam punk without romance involved.
I'm definitely going to read the next book. Mostly because I'm excited for the forth book given some of the set up that occurred in this one between Lady Aramina and Duke Leo.
Blue - "There was nothing Blade liked better than thumbing his nose at the blue bloods who ruled the city" p.2
Flame - "...he bounded up and over the wall before the guard on top had finished shaking out the flame on his match" p.3
Friend - "He gave Freddy and his fat friend one last hungry look..." p.17
Bottle - "Handing Will his bottle of blud-wein, he settled into one of the arm chairs by the fireplace..." p.41
City - "There's talk of the Scandinavian Empire sending an embassy to London" p.36

Hey Jade, do they say where in Maryland this is occurring? Maryland is a state... some cities could be Baltimore, Annapolis, Silver Spring, and then depending on where in Maryland the book takes place it might reference Washington D.C.

Great! I will change it on the spreadsheet.

At least it would have worked out either way :)

Thanks for checking on things, JenniferPP!! I guess we don't need to post our weekly standings anywhere.
Danielle - I am a relatively recent reader of Nora Roberts and I love her as well. I haven't read the one you just finished but I will be adding it to my TBR.
Some housekeeping - please make sure you put the date you read the book in your post.
Great job everyone! We got all the points this week.
Let's see what words we can come up with this week.

It has glasses and wolf (actually, it's wolves, but that's OK)
It has all people except mother, husband or wife.
It has all of the locations, although I am not sure about State. I will have to see whether it actually mentions a specific State in it.
It has all of the colours.

All people except Teacher
All colors except Silver
All places except Store. No obvious Country I could find in a quick search, so I'll say no on that too.

Example
they went into the building

I know last round, if one of us found something obscure, we claimed it and then made the points up the following week. I'll be happy to try and find whatever everyone chooses for this week in terms of places in my next book.

And NancyHelen - I am happy for you to claim Store this week. We will make it up another week, no worries.
So - words for this week
WOW: Glasses
BOW: Wolf
Additional words
Neighbor
Building (except NancyHelen - Store)

Then just post the title of the book with a link when you find what you are reading. When you are finished post your review with date finished, and the page number or location if using kindle. A piece of the sentence is helpful as well.
Does that make sense? And thanks for posting!!
