Dream | 6 comments When I was a child I really liked a series called Seahorses by Louise Cooper. It had a girl who went to stay with her grandmother in Cornwall. While there she breaks a horse statue which unleashes a demon horse spirit. She sees the spirit on the waves and her friends try to battle this spirit. She even is nearly killed by this spirit and sees it in her house in a painting by memory… It went ok for four books. I adored this series so much. I loved the curse aspect, the British coast and horses.. kept me on my seat.
Is there anything like this? I’d like it to have been written before 2005 and maybe a series but I’m not fussed and with no blood shed please.

Lynn (lynnbar) | 126 comments How about The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith. His books are mostly about animals, sorry not sure of age range, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading them with my son.

I didn’t like the movie whatsoever so will pass. Thank you though

Lynn (lynnbar) | 126 comments Sorry my first suggestion didn't hit the mark. I have one more though:

Dragonsong (Harper Hall, #1) by Anne McCaffrey

Unfortunately, it is not set in England but upon another planet; however most of this first book, is set on the coast. It involves dragons and their smaller cousins, fire lizards. It is the story of Menolly, who loves music.

It's part of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series but it's possible to read this (and the other two books about 'harpers') on their own.

Rouan | 139 comments I second Lynn about the Harperhall Trilogy. I enjoyed reading it and wished I could have a fire lizard of my own!

Another suggestion is the Green Knowe series by Lucy Boston. The first one is Children of Green Knowe. Here’s a link. The Children of Green Knowe

My thanks to Rouan too.... The Children of the Green Knowe sounds like a perfect book to read during December.
