SOLVED. Adult Historical Romance with a spy theme maybe Napoleonic or Crimean war era

The opening chapter was a man who's wife had just died on (maybe) a battlefield. There was a spy/solider element of some kind. He was sad (obvs). I think it may have been an explosion or something and he had found some kind of memento of hers that made him think she had died. The rest of the book happens 12 (I think) years later and the hero sees his 'dead' wife walking down the street and she pretends to have/or genuinely has no idea who he is. I read a sample of this book earlier in the year on my kindle and when I came to purchase it it had disappeared even though I don't recall deleting it. I cannot for the life of me find it now - it was an author I wasn't familiar with. Thanks in advance if this jogs any memories. Sarah :)
