Graeme Dochylo | 4 comments It was really heavy on richly illustrated pictures, but not a comic, I don't remember whether there was one on every page or pair of pages, but that sounds like it could have been the case.
The main character is trying to get to the coast.
I think they were headed to the west coast of the US, but my memory isn't entirely clear. Or possibly trying to get to the coast so that they could reach an island in the ocean?

I remember that I saw it in a Chapters Indigo, I think sometime between 2015 and 2020. It was published in english and within Canada, and I would have seen it in a store in either Toronto or Kingston. At the time I had the impression that it was new, I think because of the graphic heavy style while simultaneously trying to be artsy and deep that's a rarer combination in older books.

There are repeated sections tracking the character's progress in their journey on a map with areas shading from green to yellow to red as they cross the continent, with civilisation deteriorating more the further they go away from the green zones, with the sections set in the green zones being essentially still civilized but with some cyberpunk unsettling bits and civilisation falling apart in the red zone/the land being abandoned by all but rogue robots. Or maybe it was just showing said map of civilization's levels of deterioration, implying that things would continue to get worse as the character kept getting closer to their destination, without properly tracking the character.

I remember there's one scene/illustration where they find someone in an RV who has died of starvation or thirst while sitting at their VR system, I think because they ran out of automated feed for their body in some kind of tank and couldn't be bothered to get up. The character might have gotten a shotgun or canned food from that RV? my memory isn't entirely clear.

I remember there being a scene where this spindly robot is attached to dozens of zombielike people by these cables leading to their heads. I think they come out of the mist into view of the main character. I think the main character, or possibly another character, hides from their passing within their car after their car breaks down on the road.
I remember there being some roundish thing on a mountainside which they pass by. I'm pretty sure it was intaking massive amounts of electricity via some cables and may have been giving off a lot of heat, I think the thing was some sort of server to provide a heaven-like environment for people who don't want to live in reality.
I remember there being these flying ship things laying decommissioned in the desert. They may have been involved in a war which resulted in the world becoming like this, the war may have been between the US and China.

I think there were creepy amusement park robots operating on their own and wandering about.
I think there may have been armed gangs of youth at some point.
I think the main character may have had a shotgun at some point.
I suspect that the main character may have been male, but I could be misremembering.
