Johanne *the biblionaut* | 983 comments @Theresa, we've had that for some time, since the restaurants etc reopened in the spring (proof of vaccination or new negative test result) but recently fell away, since it seems under control atm. I have no doubt they will reinstate it if the numbers start to climb too much.

It was posted today. She was away.

Robin P | 5804 comments We drove to Minneapolis (about 5 hours) on Saturday to see our son and go to a baseball game on Sunday. Before we left Saturday, I noticed something that I thought was insect bites. That night I felt the area was painful and looked closer, then started googling "what does shingles look like?" Textbook case! I had one shot for it around age 50 when it was recommended but that is quite a while ago now. There is a better booster that has been out for a few years. I was going to get that but with Covid I didn't do regular doctor visits.

I wasn't very uncomfortable but called the after-hours line the next morning, Sunday, to see if they wanted to prescribe something (trying to figure out if I should take a picture on my phone and send it). Didn't connect with a nurse till afternoon and she said it would be fine to come in to Urgent Care Monday morning. (We were already planning to drive home right after the day game.)

Urgent Care is a terrific invention. In some areas, people don't seem to have a choice beyond waiting for a doctor appointment and going to an Emergency Room. But this has been great, especially for things that crop up on weekends. I got there when they opened today and confirmed my diagnosis, now taking an antiviral and something for the nerve pain. It seems to be helping already, I was able to get some sleep, which was very difficult last night. I have known people who had a very bad time with this, hoping mine goes away quickly. Gives me an excuse to stay home, watch TV, and read.

At least the weather at the baseball game was great, and our team won in a dramatic 9th inning! (not their usual style this year)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12641 comments Oh Robin, I hope it is only a mild case too ! Getting it diagnosised so quickly and getting on some meds should probably help. My husband had it, many years ago, right when we got married. He had an awful outbreak. You are in my thoughts. Urgent Care is great, we have a 3 of them very close to us and it has been a god-send at times.

Theresa | 15655 comments Urgent Care is the best. They have been here in NYC for quite a while.

@Robin - sorry you have them but so glad you got an early diagnosis and treatment plan. It is even possible that one of the drugs you are taking was one a client of mine brought to market a few years ago. His company had rights to a privately developed drug FDA approved that was guaranteed to bring relief to shingles sufferers yet they could not find any venture capital to produce it and get it to market. It just was not 'sexy' enough. Took them years but they finally got it out and it has been a huge success. Of course, I can't remember the drug....

Oh, Robin ... my mom had a terrible case of shingles (years ago). Hoping your case is successfully treated with the antiviral. Agree that Urgent Care is the best invention! The fact that you had that earlier vaccine should help keep your case on the milder side.

I put off getting the more advanced Shingrex vaccine, too, because the co-pay was so high, but I finally gave in last year. So glad I did. It's a two-dose regimen and be prepared for a very sore arm!

Well, those of us who are or have raised our boys to be good men also have concerns. While I have had many "me too" moments, etc (when I was younger) and I know that it is the minority of times when the next thing I am going to write happens, there are girls and women who do make false allegations. Anyone who knows human nature knows that this sort of thing can happen, and is more likely to once women's voices are listened to.

Theresa | 15655 comments Enjoy your time camping!

So far, other than causing the Celebrate NYC Returns concert in Central Parj to be cut short, NYC is just wet from Henri. More rain due. Storm landfall is to be Rhode Island as a tropical storm not a Hurricane.

Although tropical storms are just as dangerous as hurricanes, just without wind.

Karin | 9249 comments We got Henri here this morning, but were never in danger of it being a hurricane due to our distance from the water. Lots of water and wind, though.
