I recommend that unless you can multitask that you stick to one story before moving onto the next. Also that starting a rough draft first really helps and you can fill it in after with more detail and dialogue.

I'd recommend creating character playlists. Basically, a playlist of songs that either sums up their personality or that they would listen to. I turn them on when I'm working with specific characters, that way I can get into the mindset and into their heads more easily. It's helped my writing a lot since I started doing it a couple years ago.
