I use Dewey's to make opportunity to read all those short works I so want to read and never have time for--particularly graphic and illustrated books. What a boon if I can find a shorter audiobook, preferrably one with a book I can read along with. I thought I was going to do just that with Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman. I have the book. I favorited the book on Hoopla. Only Hoopla no longer provides access to the short illustrated book. Hmmmm. . . . Still the book is short, so I read it anyway. Glad I did.

How do you select books for reading during Dewey's

I pick whatever I have on hand and then from there I pick what I feel like reading, I'm a big mood reader, that said, I do like to choose some shorter books and graphic novels so I don't feel like I get nothing accomplished if I don't finish a longer book. Then at least I can finish 1 book.

I always have a big TBR stack, with a variety of lengths and genres, so I am not too limited. Usually I pick a theme that is somewhat reflected in my stack, so for instance I have lots of random murder mysteries in my stack today, but I always also have other choices, not just the theme books. I usually prioritize whatever books I have already started and haven't finished yet, at least for sprints.

Good idea Jaime. I have a nonfiction doorstop I need to work through. Hour sprint times would be a good way to do that during Deweys--and perhaps other days as well.

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I usually have other, monthlong, readathons going on with prompts/challenges so that’s how I choose my books. I try and start all books before Dewey’s starts so I can finish some, but this one being at the start of the month didn’t work like that. I do have 1 shorter book which I hope to finish before the end of the readathon.

Newly Wardell | 154 comments During the reverse RaT pre read there was a prompt about plays after 1950 and enjoyed that. So I am just knocking out plays. I still havent read The Iceman Cometh. It's taunting me at this point. lol

Susan | 986 comments I try to put together a TBR stack with a mix of books — children’s, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, graphic, audio/print — so I have a nice mix to choose from. In the fall, I like to include some ghost stories. In the summer, I usually include women in translation. This time, I aimed for “beach reads”.

Sorry Hoopla let you down! I’ve noticed books “disappearing” before. I guess it’s like Netflix!

Kate | 646 comments I normally have a number of prompts to fulfil for other readathons or year long reading challenges. I also try and check out the bingo board but it was a bit late this time round. If I'm planning on starting a monster of a book I'll use a Deweys to give me a good start and I like to have 1 or 2 really well known authors on the list (normally a Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie etc) so that anyone checking out my TBR is likely to recognise something!
I don't generally get on with audio books but sometimes have one to hand or a graphic novel - if not a kids book works well to change the reading pace.
