Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each week we will be reading by chapters. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

Started today and finished the first two sections so far. I'm not sure at what point in the story that the prologue may be but will be interesting to see how they get there.

I've kind of forgotten most of the first book but the key points will come back.

I'm getting slightly confused by the set up of the book. Are the sections marked "Reminiscence" part of the chapter or separate?

There seems to be multiple cons going at the moment and will be interesting to unravel the true story.

I'm sorry I didn't say anything! I'm sloooowly reading it because I've started playing a game and I'm addicted haha I'm still on "camor of Tal Verarri" (the second section), but you can comment all you want in spoilers and I comment as I read <3

For the moment I will say that my favorite chracter was Jean on the first book, and it heartbreaked me (?) to see his treason against Locke. In fact, I don't believe it's true but a con for their enemies to believe Jean isn't Locke's friend anymore.

I dit love the first chapter and their ideas lol. But this one, where Jean is trying to end Locke's self pitiness is just AMAZING. I love how Jean isn't a mere second character but has done a lot til now.

About the "reminiscence" sections... On the first book it depended. Sometimes it was a part of the chapter, sometimes there were a "prologue" to the next one.

I've read the first book last month, so I still remember the story <3

Awesome! I can do comments within spoilers. I also missed a couple of days but caught up a little bit yesterday. I'm hoping to finish by the end of August for another challenge so we will see.

Right now I'm at Chapter 6 which is about 200 pages in and there is so much going on!!

Jean is lovely and an excellent friend. I'm so glad he got Locke out of his funk and in such an fun way. I also think that his treason against Locked must be yet another con but we will see.

There are so many little side stories of random prep for the heist/s and I feel like I'm just collecting all the clues now. It will be interesting to see how they all fit together. I really hope that Locke is able to follow up on his thoughts about Salon Corbeau. (view spoiler)[ What an awful place! The amusement wars sound terrible and not amusing at all. And for the man to have his children participate in doing evil tasks to other people. So ugly. Also I'm so curious about the chairs! What is the secret function? (hide spoiler)]

Just finished Chapter 10 and enjoying it more without the back and forth. I was struggling to keep up with all the cons!

(view spoiler)[ I can't believe that Requin just accepted the chairs. Surely, he must know that Locked doesn't innocently give gifts? I hate that Merrain killed the guards and who on Earth does she work for?

I really love Locke and Jean at sea and even better now that they have a proper captain. I can't believe he forgot the kittens! I hope that Locke gets over himself so Jean can be friends or more with Enzi and still be friends with Locke. I appreciate that Jean has loyalties beyond Locke even if that one is strong. I finished Part 2/ Chapter 13 last night. It's now at that nail biting part where hopefully it all comes together. I have a small fear that we will be left hanging.

I finished! Think the ending had to happen as it did. Interested to see where the next adventure takes them.

I've read the 3rd reminiscence and ajshdghd what's up Locke to? Does he pretend to start a civil war between the archon and th Sinspire Lord?

... Tbh and knowing him, it could be (and what they are doing to him it justifies it lol)

I love the twists of this book hahaha Ivm on chapter 10 or 11,when they just attacked the other boat.

They had to let everything on hold for now, and I'm wondering if they will return (suppose so but it's a hard situation) .

I love pirates so I don't have any complain hahaha and I was so sad when Calris died. I liked him too :c but if he didn't die we didn't get to know Ezri and I really REALLY ship Jean and her. They are both so cute <3

Yes, the pirate twist really made the book better for me. I love pirates! And Ezri and Jean are adorable together.

I don't know what to expect from now on. I really really really really love Jean, and this turn of events got me so shocked (as you can see haha) I hope he know what he's doing, but I'm so fond of him and know he's capable of a big scheme too. I don't believe he has anything against Locke, but... *sigh*

I think that Merrain and Serendi have a plot together or something haha Maybe the villains of this story are the women 8)

ARG yes.
If Jean gets killed or something I swear I'd be as mad as Ezri would be hahaha I really love these two, they are so cute together making noise every night.


I'm still trying to think about the big plot and how so many truths from Locke could go? ... Bad, but really, I don't think they could finish any of them at this rate hahaha

I hated the part with Merrain too. So awful. Who is she really? So many twists and turns in this one! Glad you are enjoying still!

Gods... I did cry a lot when Ezri died, when Jean had to kill her, when Locke and Drakasha hugged. And then the funeral. I loved her and her last brave act was just amazing. I really liked to think about Jean and her together forever :(

But I knew that would happen somehow, as Locke giving the antidote to Jean. And I really understand Jean: he sure doesn't want another loved one being dead.

Also... We didn't know anything more about Merrain. Maybe she worked for the Bondsmagi, and had to flee. We'll see on the next book -which I purchsed last week hahaha

I just need a pause of reading this adult fantasy. This one was so intense.

Congrats on finishing! It was a wild ride! Ezri dying was sad but I guess it was the most practical path for Locke and Jean to continue on their adventures. She was awesome though!

Not sure when I will attempt the next one either. I only just realized that it is longer than a trilogy!

That just makes me want to wait longer unfortunately! Though it would be better to read the next one while I still kind of remember this one. There are still so many open questions!!
