Max meets with Ben Lawson right before her flight and he offers her a job proposition, an investigative reporting cable TV show that plays on her name. She first declines because she likes her independence but did you sense it was more than that, maybe because of Ben’s involvement? What did you make of her relationship with him?

[Anita]

I definitely thought she didn't want to be involved because of Ben. I think there is a lot more to Max's feelings for Ben than she wants to acknowledge, same for him. Should be interesting to see how that plays out in the series.

[Sharon]

I agree with Anita. Max didn't want anything to do with Ben. I don't think she trusts Ben enough to have a partnership with him in any venture. Max also mentioned that friends thought that Ben used her.

I had the impression that she doesn't like him much. The only reason she gives him the time of day is because the both grieve for Karen.

I didn't clue in on a potential romantic relationship with him. It will be interesting to see if Anita is correct.

I think she was equally reluctant to lose her independence and work with Ben. There’s something underneath her irritation with Ben and I didn’t get a romance vibe either. In fact, I think Max distrusts him.

This could get interesting.

My feeling is that Max doesn't trust Ben and just puts up with him because of their connection with Karen. I'm sure we're going to learn more about their past relationship as the series moves on.

I didn't really factor Ben into her decision. I just figured it was because she didn't want her work interrupted by the show.
I agree that she doesn't like Ben.
