Due to a tie, you can pick either of the two books and leave your comments about them here. Be sure to mention which book you are discussing in your comment.
The Fog Diver
Snowed Up

Manybooks | 380 comments Snowed Up is available on Open Library but The Fog Diver is not, so I will only be reading Snowed Up.

Manybooks | 380 comments Started with Snowed Up and so far a sweet little story, but perhaps a bit predictable. Kind of know that trying to get home on the bus will likely end up in potential disaster due to the weather, due to snow.

Ken Deeprose | 16 comments Hello all. I decided to read The Fog Diver as I do generally prefer something with a bit of a sci-fi feel. I really enjoyed this one. It definitely has that science fiction vibe and even a little steampunk thing going on - right in my wheelhouse. I thought the characters were fun and the mission well defined. It was an interesting world with an intriguing origin - something I look forward to learning more about in further adventures. I do question the frequent pop culture references. Much of the humour in the book was derived from somewhat mangled references to people, events and sayings from back in our time. I did find many of them clever, but I'm wondering if they will be as effective for the target audience of the book. The Star Wars terms will likely be be understood by most kids and the Star Trek ones by a few less, but I find it unlikely any would have ever heard of Greta Garbo or know any Beatles' lyrics.

All in all, I found it to be an enjoyable read. The ending was not really an ending so I'm glad I ordered The Lost Compass at the same time. I will be diving into that one tonight.

Maria Dateno | 42 comments The Fog Diver was very well written--I enjoyed it a lot and immediately requested the sequel from the library!

As Ken mentioned, there were lots of funny references to the things of the past, which have been confused and half-forgotten. At one point one kid is arguing that people used to eat mud and string--"mud pies and string cheese."

The relationship among the four main characters, who are all orphans, is my favorite thing about the book, especially how protective they are of the youngest.

I really enjoyed The Fog Diver. I ordered the sequel from the library when I was about halfway through the first one because I knew I'd want to know what happens! I thought the characters were great, the action was suspenseful, and the pace was great. This was a definite winner for me!
