Probably.. I'm not technical so can't comment on this. And this book was written a while ago and technology especially wireless has grown in leaps and bounds in the last five years so this also could be a factor.
It depends on the type of microphones, but I thought there should be a way to trace them.
This book was published in 2004. I don't think that the technology to trace this kind of wireless signal existed yet.

It is difficult to triangulate acoustic signals in the sound field because the human vocal and auditory range are limited. There are animals that can do it (bats, whales and dolphins have echolocation). It was used in WW1 to try and track aircraft, but it was not very effective and once radar was developed it became obsolete.
That's interesting. With all the wireless cameras in security I thought it would be a given. But as I said I'm no techo genius, LOL.

Thanks for the information Lauren. I thought it would be easier to track because it used radio waves or a radio transmitter. Learn something new.

Listening in on audio when you know the location is relatively simple (think of cops or FBI agents listening in on mob hangouts), but finding the source of the sound when it is unknown is very difficult and expensive although not impossible.
