Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2603 comments I was about ready to give up on this audio. The first 4 or 5 chapters could have used some editing to cull out unnecessary background to fewer pages. I started by reading an ebook edition so when I had the opportunity to switch to the audio, I took it hoping I'd like that better. Once we got to the time travel part, I found the reader's interpretation of the upper class voice to be over the top and didn't care for that at all. However, she was extremely good at other accents. The reader is British but did the best American that I've heard read by a Brit. With one caveat, she didn't know that the gun was not a S. I. G. Saur but pronounced Sig Sauer. That grated on me each time she said it.

Once into the time travel, however, the story picked up and not all of the upper crust got that almost comical voice, it fact it is mostly just the Duke of Aldridge but not his nephew Alec. Quite a few of the characters are very progressive which seems implausible but moves the story ahead. Then there's the way Kendra is constantly using modern terms to describe forensics, etc. Sometimes questioned but often just accepted by the 19th century characters!

In the final analysis, not the best time-travel book I've ever read but somewhat entertaining and there are sequels. I won't rush out for the sequels but, given the opportunity, I might pick one up to read if not listen.

Booknblues | 12158 comments I did find it a bit strange that Kendra kept using the modern terms. I thought for being so supposedly smart that she would have been a bit more cautious with what she said.

By and large, I was entertained by it and will read another in the series.
