I would imagine she means the part where Jango tells Sonja about what his cousin did to him. Anywy, finished a couple days ago. It's a good start, I'm eager to see how the series goes from here.
Cedric wrote: "What "child rape scenes"?"I was talking about the part when Jango describes how he was raped by his cousin at the age of 4. It's not exactly the kind of after-sex talk most people have with their partner (joke). I just wasn't expecting it, that's all.
In the beginning, the tone of the book is mostly funny. Then all of a sudden the book turns into erotica, and then it turns dark and serious with the description of the child rape. It was a little too much of a shift in tone for me.
It's seems like it was just me though. It didn't seem to bother anyone else. Overall, I liked the book and most people love it.
It angered me, not that it was included--I very strongly think that that anecdote summarized WHY Jango is who and what he is. I was angered at the rapist, but furious about the "babysitter" whose only concern is "you'll make me lose my babysitting job". I wanted to beat them both senseless, and yank Jango out of that home and place him someplace safe. Now if Cedric ever wanted to pen an "alternative" version--I would love to read one in which Sally survives, and she and Jango "hit the road together" as Champion Zombie Hunters.
That's brutally honest, and I applaud you for it. A lot of us avoid talking of abuse, so you have my praise.
Same here. I still can't talk about what happened to me. So Cedric has my respect for helping others who went through what he went through.
I really try to use my books to shed light on those unsung heroes among us. I mean, what is a hero? Someone who perseveres against terrible odds. A person who suffers from depression, yet they raise up and face another day. The person with PTSD who, with a monumental effort of will, does not lash out at the world because of their pain. The person who breaks the cycle. I mean, hell, some of the greatest heroes are people who appear unremarkable, yet their struggles are titanic. Heroes. We are all of us survivors, and I try to tell our stories within my stories. Seriously, I appreciate you all for reading my book! I know that first one was a bit rough, unpolished. If you stick it out, though, the books get incrementally better!
I actually preferred the first one over the second (which I just finished a re-read of). Haven't read the third one yet.BTW, did you ever live in Anthem? Your description of the "richness" of residents doesn't match my experience of living there for a year or so (as the market collapsed in 2007 and 2008).
Nah. Anthem is just a shopping mall that I pass by when I am going North on the 17. I will tell you this, though, the affluence factor of Anthem has shot way up in the past few years. Man! I have been there a couple of times, and all the construction that was going on... Huge gated communities, and more.Randy wrote: "I actually preferred the first one over the second (which I just finished a re-read of). Haven't read the third one yet.

Cedric wrote: "Huge gated communities, and more."I lived in one of those. Mostly empty houses. And a lot of people walked away after the mortgage bubble burst.
We had a huge house, but there were three generations. We combined three households into one. Five adults. Two teenagers. 3 dogs. 2 cats.
Yay on the dogs and cats; but that's too many humans for me. I live as solitary a life as possible, in the midst of two adults and six younguns', plus one expected in April.Never lived in a gated community, but never would once read The Association;)
When do we start Jango#2?
I really respect you Cedric. The survivors of abuse are really the unsung heroes that are absent from quality story telling. I don't really see them portrayed accurately in novels and movies. I'm glad some light is being shed, even if it is uncomfortable it is a part of everyday life and should be exposed in media.
It is super uncomfortable, Brother! Even for me. I get the PTSD squirms, man, when I write sometimes. I really appreciate you, Jonathan. Are you on the Facebook?Jonathan wrote: "I really respect you Cedric.

I finished Jango's Anthem last night. It was amazingly awesome. Not sure which of the books I like more, but both of them brought something new to the table. How is everyone doing on here?
(Also thanks for adding me on Facebook Cedric. ;-)
If anyone else would like to add me, my profile is located here: https://www.facebook.com/shambaloo )
Finished it last night. As promised, the writing was a lot cleaner and more polished this time around. Also, kudos to Cedric for not only using proper pronouns to refer to a transgender person, but also treating her as entirely human and not as just a joke. That's certainly something I never expected to see in a zombie novel.
Just finished Rage and Ruin last night (though not the short story that follows it), and it's my favorite of the three. A problem I had with the first two books was that so many of the secondary characters weren't fleshed out. Other than Sonja and Vanessa, it seemed like all the other characters were given just enough description to be cutouts for Jango to either save or kill. Rage and Ruin takes a lot more time to flesh these characters out, which I appreciated. (view spoiler)
I also finished Rage and Ruin last night, as well as the short story and the excerpt. My favorite action scenes are in this book, but I found the first 15-20% to be very slow going. Too much recap.
But I am sorry the trilogy is done. :(
Now, off to Adrian's Undead Diary, #2.
I did. Since Morgan is Mr. Peaceful now I don't know how he'll take watching Rick murder Pete. All life is precious. He probably won't stick around....again. I was thinking he would be in the spinoff that takes place in LA but probably not.
I am about 75% into Rage and Ruin and I am liking it more then Jango's Anthem. It definitely has a definitely has a different feel from the first two books. It is obvious Cedric approved as a writer for sure.
Finished Rage and Ruin today and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting (view spoiler)I was also surprised when (view spoiler)
Overall I give it a five out of five stars. I will have a review posted shortly. Thank you Cedric Nye for joining us for this buddy read.
Ditto on both your spoilers...Of the three books, the second book was my least favorite, although I give all three 5-star ratings.
I created another buddy read for the television series Twin Peaks. Not sure if anyone in this topic is a fan or remotely curious. But if you happen to want to give the series a shot please feel free to visit my group here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I would have liked to see Sonja and Jango battle zombies together, but I guess it was not to be. I thought they made a great pair. I'm a huge fan of strong female characters, so I'm a little disappointed with what happened with Sonja.
